Community Highlights: Meet Vance Smith of Truth In Image Business Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vance Smith.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Truth In Image Business Media was created from my love and passion for business and photo/video. It all started during the COVID-19 lockdown. I was in business school at UNCW, took a late scholarship check, and purchased my first camera. From there, my first photography business failed, and I gave up! However, the constant remarks from my coworkers and God’s perfect timing allowed me to do headshots at my old workplace. With much soul searching and prayer, I decided to try it again, marrying my passion and education. It was at that point I knew I wanted to do business media. My business is growing today, and this year, I got the fantastic opportunity to be the producer for the award-winning talk show Today With Rhe! Starring the tremendous Rhema Tilman, she highlights everyday entrepreneurs and the realities of what it’s like for them. It has been an excellent opportunity to highlight such passionate entrepreneurs on Rhe’s show.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been one of my life’s most complex but rewarding challenges. Besides the obvious, with COVID-19 completely changing life as we knew it, there were many other factors at play as well:

• Having my second child
• Finishing school
• Transitioning away from my previous career field
• Trying to juggle all this and keeping food on the table

On a more personal level, I was adjusting my unrealistic expectations of myself and allowing myself to learn through my mistakes. I realize how critical it is to meet and network with others because no amount of technology can replace honest in-person relationships.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Truth In Image was built from the ground up for premium B2B multimedia services, large or small. We meet the businesses where they are, whether photo or video. They aim to relieve pain points and do it all in a professional, portable format. We are most proud of our brand new All-In-One Mobile Podcast setup. We can provide professional industry-standard podcast audio, customizable lighting, and a multi-cam recording setup, all on location! For video, we create short-form content, branding, and marketing videos. For photos, we do portraits, product, and event photography. We don’t aim to make pretty pictures; we strive to impact your business.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is not a dollar amount, fancy house, status, or title. Success is the ability to be proud of where you are, realize how far you’ve come, and recognize that you can achieve anything you want. I will persist until I succeed, my mentor taught me that.
