Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckenzie Horner + Miranda Bell

Hi, Mckenzie + Miranda; thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Miranda only considered herself a reader once she read the popular series A Court of Thorns and Roses by SJM. She often found herself reading trendy books to stay in the know. Miranda has a skill for talking (a lot) and knew she wanted to be in entertainment since she was young. Retelling the most talked about stories gossipily with one of her best friends seemed the logical next step to her dreams. McKenzie has been an avid reader for many years and is known as the funniest girl in our girl group. She is always the life of the party and makes everyone feel special in whatever manner she encounters them. McKenzie has been taking charge of the Plot Peek TikTok account and building a community of other book lovers. Our mutual love for true crime podcasts inspired the podcast. We love the storytelling aspects and wanted to allow people to hear the stories online with the option of reading along with us or enjoying a fun story.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest thing is we are in a long-distance friendship at this time. Mckenzie is in the Raleigh/Durham area, while Miranda is in the Chicago area now. Since we are both RNs at this time, it’s been challenging coordinating times; we are both off and not too tired to do a little work on the side. We also are working on building our social media presence and getting our name out to our target audience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Unlike many book podcasts that delve deep into specific books or focus on book club discussions, we wanted our podcast to be a space for everyone, whether they’re avid readers or not. We take the time to explore sections of the book, discussing character development and plotlines. Our aim is to make our listeners feel like they’re part of a friendly conversation, gossiping about the latest fictional drama that’s making waves on the internet. We want everyone to feel welcome and included in our discussions.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
Luck has played little in our brand growth. We both personally have put in a massive amount of effort trying to prepare our shows, engage with our community, create fun content, and work hours on audio and video recording editing software. While we are hopeful that luck will fall into our palms in the future, everything we have created up to this point has been pure hard work.
