Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brigette Davidovici-Dean.
Brigette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I still view myself as getting to the next goals I want to achieve — but I’ve always wanted the opportunity to create something and connect with my family and others in a creative way, and I’ve worked hard to accomplish that over the years.
I started out almost 15 years ago as an actor/musician, and I’ve morphed that creative energy into applicable businesses as I’ve grown up, as I’ve learned and lost. Now, I invest my time in the two businesses that I formed with my husband Zack, endeavors that really fulfill us and also really push us, as all great things do.
We created two companies: the first is Witch I Love Your Hair, where we’ve been brewing Hair Magic for our magical customers for over seven years now, brewed locally in Asheville! And the second is Sounds Like Fun Events, where we bring music, lights, and fun to all of Asheville and the cities surrounding us.
It’s been an incredible experience over all these years to see how the things you love can become something new, how the setbacks can be set up for amazing experiences, and how much is possible if you keep trying, even if you fail. I’m so happy to share the passions and businesses that mean the world to me and my family!
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road, but even in the worst moments, there is something poignant about finding out how resilient you are.
It’s not easy, and it’s never the goal — but you always remember when you were stronger than you knew you could be. My husband and I joke that we’re in the “good old days” in our toughest moments because we hope in the future, we’ll look back and be proud of young, dumb us, just trying our best in this world.
We faced some serious struggles as a small biz as we recovered from the world changes after the pandemic, the inflation on raw goods to manufacture, the loss of certain supplies being available that we needed to create our product, and so much more. I think all small businesses have felt the pressures of a post-pandemic world, but in our darkest business times, we would do what we could with what we had.
Even when we knew it wasn’t enough, we would always remind each other that we could figure it out with a little creativity and a positive attitude. We would chant that to ourselves even when it was scary, even when we didn’t know if we could continue — and sometimes, irrational optimism creates magic in the problem that wasn’t there before.
We would hit the whiteboard we had up on our wall and just brainstorm ideas until we couldn’t anymore; we would try them out, celebrate the small wins, pick ourselves up from the big failures, and we would just keep going. Sometimes, you thrive, but sometimes, you just accept defeat, watch The Office, cry yourself to sleep, and try again the next day. It’s both inspiring and depressing how life just keeps on going, even if your personal world is falling apart — but you can also ride that constant forward energy when you need it and move along with the world.
I read a lot of magical stories as a kid, so deep down, I always felt like everything would work out, and it was for the plot, no matter how difficult it seemed. Even when I had spinal fusion as a kid, which was fusing titanium rods all along my spine, I thought it seemed like Wolverine from X-Men when he had adamantium fused to his skeleton, so I naturally just assumed I was also a mutant, so I would be fine from the surgery, and probably wake up to Professor X recruiting me to save the world, too.
Imagination is a powerful thing, and it has helped me overcome many things in my life. I’m still waiting for Professor X to reach out, but I went on to heal from my spinal fusion, so he already helped me in a way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
On the topic of magical books, I actually wrote my first novel, where you will be sure to find magic, elemental beings, healing, romance, multiple dimensions, quantum physics, and more — all the things that make life magical!
It’s called “We Used To Be Humans” by Brigette Dean, and it’s available on Amazon now. It’s my first book in a long series, and I’m excited to continue writing and sharing! My life was profoundly changed by the possibilities I could only find in books, in fantastical stories and characters — so it’s always been a dream of mine to contribute to the medium that means so much to me.
I hope to eventually combine all my passions into one project my love of writing, acting, recording sound, and creating visuals– into one project where I could voice an animated show/movie of my books! Think animated Avatar meets Harry Potter meets Sci-Fi! I know there are many steps to put into place here, but everything starts at zero, and I’m happy to start. Even if it doesn’t get to where I dream of, I’m happy to have the chance to try, happy to be alive during a time when you can self-publish without anyone having to agree that your book is good, haha.
I did some acting back in my early 20s in L.A. after I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts for performance in college. I knew I always wanted to tell stories; I always wanted to make people laugh and feel, but I took time off to figure out life and how to get through it.
I never ended up figuring out the whole life thing, but I’m just more comfortable with the not-knowing now. I had some incredible acting opportunities when I was young, but I wasn’t ready for them. Thankfully, you always have a chance to continue pursuing things you love just because you love them. I really believe in timing beyond what we can see at the moment.
I’m returning to acting now, more than 10 years later! I signed up with JPervis Talent, an amazing acting agency in Atlanta, and it’s been so fun to bring acting back into my life. I really enjoy the possibilities inherent in it, and all theatre kids know there is nothing like getting a new script and getting your highlighter out. Also, the advancements in technology have made auditioning so amazing!
You can self-tape from home or have Zoom meetings with people all over the world without leaving your house — I love watching how things evolve into better versions of themselves all the time. Hopefully, I’ll do the same!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
I love positive, motivational videos on YouTube or your preferred social media outlet. I’ve spent a long time researching the effect of the subconscious mind, so I do my best to keep my nervous system buoyant with positivity and mindfulness. I care a lot about nervous system regulation, especially since I have a higher pain level on a daily with my spine being fused with titanium.
Meditating, some gentle yoga, and a guided meditation set to some binaural beats or positive frequencies keep me going in this world. I try to take at least 10 minutes every night before bed to lightly stretch and do some mental work or breath work. I try to make it as accessible as possible. I leave my yoga mat out every day in front of my bed like it’s a little rug, and I just plop on it and stretch before sleep.
It helps me unwind from the day and access my inner energy, helping me detangle from the worries of my day or body. It only takes a few minutes to change so much, just by sitting still, breathing, and closing my eyes. I also love EFT tapping and journaling. It is amazing how powerful it is to talk to your own subconscious mind.
An app I love is DownDog yoga app, it helps me do yoga in my living room and is amazing! It’s so customizable and helpful.
