Meet Diego Ramirez of Raleigh White Pages

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Ramirez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey in the military, serving in the Navy from 2005 to 2009, with two intense years in Iraq and two enriching years in Italy. After my service, I settled in Raleigh and joined WebAssign, an online homework platform, where I managed their remedy help desk. Seeking a new challenge, I transitioned into the service industry for 13 years, immersing myself in the world of craft cocktails, mixology, and beer knowledge while earning various procedural certifications. My career then took another turn into apartment renovation, where I honed skills in drywall, painting, and cabinet renovation. Now, I’m embarking on an exciting new chapter, starting my own business in the trucking industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant challenges, notably the closure of our restaurant, Red Monkey Tavern, in 2020. This forced me to pivot to contract opportunities, where I quickly learned the complexities of being a contractor, including understanding my rights and navigating the unpredictable nature of contract work. Switching positions across various bars presented its own struggles. I had to adapt to diverse work environments, from fine dining establishments to large bars, dive bars, and even corporate bartending and catering. Each setting required a unique approach and skill set, but these experiences have been invaluable in shaping my versatility and resilience in the industry.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Recognizing the importance of community support, I decided to invest in a Raleigh-wide digital directory aimed at connecting local small businesses. This platform serves as a hub where entrepreneurs can share services, collaborate on projects, and support each other’s growth. By fostering a network of local businesses, we aim to strengthen the Raleigh community, making it easier for residents to discover and engage with the diverse services and products our small businesses offer. This initiative is about creating a stronger, more interconnected local economy where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is building a network of loyal co-businesses dedicated to strengthening the Raleigh community. By fostering strong, collaborative relationships among local entrepreneurs, we can create a supportive environment where businesses thrive together. This interconnected network not only enhances our individual success but also contributes to the overall vitality and resilience of our community, making Raleigh a better place for everyone.
