Inspiring Conversations with Kenna Ehman of Kenna Kunijo

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kenna Ehman.

Kenna Ehman

Hi Kenna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started doing hair 15 years ago. I wanted to create something that gave people the space to grow and become better.

I met my business partner, and we found common ground in giving back and growing others, so we decided to open a salon where we could share the mission together. We specialize in all textures of hair and new stylists’ growth.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has not been easy at all. Being a business owner is rough.

Don’t be a leader if you don’t want to be exposed to the hardest path of growth. We survived Covid, a big shift in staffing, and many other struggles. We are still standing and still growing. We are in the midst of big growth really exciting things coming this year and are so excited about this new chapter.

We’ve been impressed with Kenna Kunijo, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
We have the highest pay structure in the area and the best benefit package, and we recently won the top 200 salons in America for our work culture and employee benefits.

We hire seasoned stylist after they make it through the interview process including a working i review in live models and also offer a 2-year-long training program for new stylists wanting to be in our team.

What truly sets us apart though is the way we  give back to the community through donations and time. All of our product sales on Fridays go to help non profits for and ran by minorities in our own community

A fun little brag is that we are the official hair sponsor of the Carolina Panther’s top cats and do their hair every home game!

We truly love partnering with other organizations and businesses with the same heart for excellence and giving back.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just ask. Acknowledge their time is valuable, and be honest about what you are looking for.

My mentors, I’ve just asked. You have to put yourself out there, and it’s uncomfortable, but it pays off. Don’t be afraid of growing and uncomfortable conversations. Know your weak spots and be open to needing help there and chipping away to continue to grow.
