Today we’d like to introduce you to Graham Worth.

Hi Graham, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We opened our store almost 8 months ago and Durham has been so welcoming to our concept! We continue to try new items on our menu through our daily and monthly specials and look to further expand our vegan options based on their popularity. We continue to see new customers coming in daily and are excited to see this grow.

Since opening, we have also established consistent events at this location:

Wednesday – Tipsy Trivia
Thursday – Open Mic Night
3rd Saturday of the month – Makers Market

We also offer an open mic comedy night, live musicians. We have a monthly newsletter as well as our Instagram (@thecommonmarketdurham) where everyone can stay up to date on events!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every business is presented with challenges, especially with opening a new store, as we were no different. It always takes time to understand how our neighborhood would utilize this store and it takes time to listen to customers to get it right.

We have started bringing in local products from Strong Arm Bakery, Melina’s Pasta, Bull City Pepper Co. and others to allow customers an opportunity to support other local businesses in the area as well. Mid Bloom Coffee and The Parlour are our neighbors in the store offering coffee and ice cream and people find that our on a daily basis!

We have expanded and adapted our food offerings to the neighborhood and will continue to monitor sales trends to ensure their needs are being met.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our goal is to create a community hub where people can interact, meet, converse with other members of the community. Despite COVID removing people from the office full-time, we understand that people still want to feel a sense of belonging and being around people is the number one way to accomplish this.

Common Market offers this in a relaxed environment where everyone is welcome but it takes time for this to develop in a neighborhood. We are excited to continue to see this grow with the Durham community.
