Meet David Perazzo of Durham Beer Garden

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Perazzo.

Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I opened my food truck Baozi back in 2015 with an Asian Fusion menu concept that was unique and sought out. I built the truck from scratch, it began as an empty shell and all the equipment was added. The most popular menu items are our steamed buns and dumplings. We have served at offices, food truck rodeos, weddings, music festivals, neighborhoods, you name it we traveled around the state. We have decided to put down roots in Durham, NC, and let our food truck have a permanent home at the Durham Beer Garden. Located in the Five Points area of Downtown Durham on N. Mangum St. we have a beautiful indoor/outdoor space with ample seating for large groups. Families and friendly dogs are welcome to the space. Twenty rotating beers on tap, wines, grab-and-go beers, a nonalcoholic selection, and cocktails are all available giving patrons endless options. The welcoming environment is similar to the European Beer Gardens with plants and tv’s for sports enthusiasts to enjoy the game inside/outside.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any small business, we have encountered obstacles along the way. As a food truck, we broke down many times on the way to events. As a brick and mortar, we had almost two years of construction. Had to wait for 9 months for the building to be rezoned while still paying rent.

As you know, we’re big fans of Durham Beer Garden. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our Beer Garden is a beautiful space for families and friends to gather in a welcoming environment. We offer many options for patrons. From grab-go beers to 20 different draft options, wines, nonalcoholic options, and cocktails. We also feature our pub-style and Asian Fusion menu on our on-site food truck. We are a great spot for events. We have weekly specials such as Monday night .50c wings and 32 oz Kona mugs for $9. Wednesdays are half-off glasses of wine, and we feature different music artists every Saturday.
