Today, we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shadé Adu.

Hi Dr. Adu, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This month, I am celebrating ten years in business. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been a rollercoaster ride that has shaped me into the person I am today. Ten years ago, I was an international educator living in the Republic of Kazakhstan. I started my business to help and inspire people.

Through that initial desire, I realized that I had to learn how to turn my actual desire of wanting to help people into an actual business. I invested in coaching and mentoring. I attended live events and course after course after course to learn how to properly run a business.

After implementing what I learned, I was able to learn how to leverage social media to build my brand and grow my business to multiple six figures.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. I’ve endured self-doubt, imposter syndrome, depression, running out of money multiple times, and some clients who don’t operate with integrity. Failed payments, chargebacks, attempts at character assassination, low money months, and more. But the biggest challenge in all of this was me. I was the one holding me back.

Once I learned how to better master my emotions and challenges, I realized that I could get through them. Prayer, therapy, and rest work. Challenges will arise, but they require you to be the best version of yourself so that you can tackle these challenges. Also, seeking help when challenges arise also helps.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am a North Carolina transplant. My mother’s side of the family is from here, and I have been coming here since I was three weeks old.

I had no idea that I would be living here in Raliegh after relocating from Wisconsin-Kazkahstan-New Jersey after graduate school. I enjoy my quality of life. My neighborhood is quiet. I like that there is a community of entrepreneurs and that there is always an event going on. This place keeps me busy, and I am looking forward to exploring more. I travel a lot, and now I have more time to explore locally.

The only drawback is transportation. As a New Jersey native, I enjoyed being able to get around via public transportation. In NC, you have to drive. It’s not my favorite thing to do. If you don’t drive, you are limited.
