Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron McCarty
Hi Cameron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my professional career at NASCAR as an intern in the broadcast engineering department of NASCAR Media Group. Majoring in Communications at NC State coupled with the internship experience, I realized I enjoyed media production and had a knack for the technical concepts, and my engineering career was born. Through professional experiences in live sports and entertainment, as well corporate communication and digital platforms, I’ve been able to gain a broad skillset in a niche industry.
From selling candy in high school to studying options trading, I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset. Now, living in a world of social media, post-Covid, and web streaming accessibility, I saw a need for my skillset and expertise to a greater market. This lead me into starting McCarty.TechTV. McCarty.TechTV in its roots is a service based business that encompasses all aspects of live production; from technical setup and installation to it’s own radio/live streaming brand, ‘RDU Live’.
In essence, my goal has been to utilize my technical expertise to make live streaming accessible to my community, while using my entrepreneurial mind and communication skills to help promote and market those around me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I tend to look at this journey like a roller coaster or climbing a mountain. The longer it takes to get to the top, the better the view, the rougher the ride, the better the thrill.
In my journey, dealing with rejection and uncertainty has been a huge learning curve. Learning how to find funding, while doing more with less, all while hearing “no” from client after client is a struggle, but a necessary part of business.
Another “growth point” for me personally has been overcoming being an introvert. In order to build a brand and scale a business that requires engagement, I constantly have to stretch myself to either communicate, delegate, engage, or all the above.
We’ve been impressed with McCarty.TechTV, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
McCarty.TechTV is a business that specializes in all aspects of live and post media production. With a network of live production technicians as well as videographers, editors, photographers, etc, we scale up or down to meet the needs of our clients. This specialty ranges from audio/video installations to actual live streaming events (online or on-location).
McCarty.TechTV also owns the ‘RDU Live” brand. The ‘RDU Live’ brand is a series of multimedia format content that highlights and promotes local musicians, artists, and entrepreneurs in the Raleigh/Durham area. Our platform and services include on-location streaming for business promotion and sponsorship, social media marketing, and our flagship programming being “The RDU Live Radio Show” on the Oak 93.5 FM Radio Station in Raleigh, NC. This show has grown to include multiple hosts and journalists that cover a wide range of topics, genres, and niches.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I truly enjoy the art community, the inclusiveness, commerce, and plethora of opportunity that Durham and the Triangle offer.
Honestly, I wish all the college colors were Red and White, but that’s just a personal preference.
