Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Segur
Hi Holly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2021 I purchased a home in Wilmington, NC quite impulsively and realized the next chapter of my life had just begun! Within six months, I relocated from upstate NY to NC where I knew not a soul, nor how to navigate the area. I was working remotely as a senior executive with Corning Incorporated and made plans to retire officially in 2022 so that I could fully immerse myself in my new environment.
I quickly found community within the WILMA network (an entity dedicated to growing and developing female leaders and entrepreneurs in Wilmington). I found a place mentoring women on career progression, business development and how to embody their role as CEO of their life and business. My company, Lead Intuitively, is now a corporate sponsor of WILMA and I am expanding my reach to help high-achieving women in the region.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No! But I didn’t exactly ease into this slowly. Being brand new to the area, knowing no one and launching a business has been challenging. I took each chapter of the process (now in it’s third year) as an opportunity to learn about myself, the economy here, and how the market responds to business opportunities.
I learned that trying to DIY every aspect of business handicaps entrepreneurs from seeing the big picture of their concept. Women play diverse roles in their life and being a CEO requires strategy and intention. It’s not a hobby! And through my own journey, I have developed practices that help women ‘sway’ more comfortably between their many responsibilities. I use the term ‘sway’ because I feel the old phrase of ‘balance’ is misleading. There is never any balance – the key is to stay flexible and open to the push and pull between our personal and professional life. It is possible to have it all!
We’ve been impressed with Lead Intuitively, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help high achieving women get the title without losing themself in the process. Whether you want to grow your career within a corporation, or you want to grow your business entity, I understand the many challenges women face. As a 30 year veteran of a Fortune 300 corporation, I know what it’s like to navigate the corporate ladder. I grew my career from entry level to executive within 15 years. I have led 1000s of people, across the globe, managed hundreds of millions of dollars in P&L, and guided talent through some very challenging economic times. There isn’t an aspect of corporate life that I am not experienced in and can provide insight for others.
Personally, I am also a single mother of two amazing young women who watched me prioritize them within the demands of my corporate role. I have been a Scout leader, scorekeeper for sports, and vacation bible school volunteer. I understand sway.
And lastly, I am an only child who ushered my parents through their last years. I lived through the grief of elder care, estate planning and their loss. I know how it feels to be ‘doing it all’ even when you really wish you didn’t have to.
I now take all these experiences and funnel them as wisdom for other women to learn from. I have developed strategies to identify personal and professional goals. Together we set targets for learning and growth. I am their biggest cheerleader, tough love coach and accountability partner. I help women succeed.
