Meet Philippa Abang of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Philippa Abang

Hi Philippa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Philippa, and I’ve always believed life is too short to stay stuck in our comfort zones. As women, we often juggle countless responsibilities, many of which aren’t even ours to carry. This can make it all too easy to put our dreams on hold. But what if we faced what scares us? What if we embraced the idea that trying something new—even something as simple as acknowledging our emotions—could unlock doors to a more fulfilling life?

Through my weekly vlogs and lifestyle articles, I encourage women to break free from their routines and explore new passions. Whether it’s taking up a hobby, letting go of tasks that no longer serve you, or shifting your mindset, there’s immense power in taking that first step. It might not always go smoothly at first, but that’s part of the journey. Life is about learning, evolving, and enjoying the process along the way.

Growing up, one of my greatest fears was failure. I worked hard at everything because, in my family, failure was not something that was easily accepted. As I grew older and inevitably experienced failure, it hit me hard. It felt foreign and overwhelming, like the end of the world. Even though my parents weren’t there to compare my failures, the voices in my head did the job for them. But I’ve learned that failure isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of discovering what you’re truly capable of.

Each time I failed, I got back up, learned from the experience, and kept going. Yes, I still judge myself from time to time, but I’ve realized that growth comes from persistence. And that’s what I want to share: the strength to rise again, try again, and keep moving forward.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If I had a genie with unlimited wishes, life would be as easy as a spring breeze. But that’s not how it works—it’s been a challenging journey of discovering who I truly am. One of my first major hurdles was moving to a new country. I thought that if I changed my accent, life would be easier, and people would understand me better. I tried hard not to stand out, but it didn’t make a difference. Now, I embrace those unique parts of me, thanks to my sister Roselyn’s advice. She told me to stop trying to be someone I wasn’t, and though it wasn’t easy to hear, it was the push I needed. God bless her heart—she didn’t sugarcoat it, but it worked. I stopped faking it and trying to ‘make it,’ and honestly, I still haven’t ‘made it’—but I’m no longer pretending.

My most recent hurdle has been organic chemistry. I’ve been struggling to get that A, but after my second quiz, I did much better, so I have hope that things are finally clicking. But the greatest hurdle of all has been learning to understand myself. I had to be alone, to really spend time with myself, before I could truly grasp who I am. It was terrifying at first, but it’s been so worth it. Now, I can’t imagine a life where I couldn’t enjoy doing things on my own, whenever I want.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a student, behavior technician, and lifestyle blogger/vlogger. Right now, I’m working on my biology degree, and chemistry and I are getting pretty close! I’m most proud of my academic journey because it’s been challenging, but I’ve pushed through and am excited to be nearing graduation.
As a behavior technician, I work with autistic children, which has been an incredibly eye-opening experience. I’ve learned a lot about myself—both my strengths and areas for growth. This role has helped me develop patience, quick problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation for how I can contribute to others’ lives in meaningful ways.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine my work with children, my studies, and my creative outlet as a lifestyle blogger. Through blogging, I get to share how these different aspects of my life intersect and shape who I am. I reflect on the lessons I’m learning, the challenges I’m overcoming, and how I invest in my peace, creativity, relationships, and faith. These areas all blend together to help me grow, and I love being able to share that journey with others.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people I work with might not know about me is that I’m deeply invested in my creative side as a lifestyle blogger and vlogger. While I’m focused and professional in my work as a behavior technician and student, I also love sharing personal experiences, challenges, and lessons I’ve learned through my blog. It’s my way of expressing myself, reflecting on life, and encouraging others to step out of their comfort zones and invest in their personal growth.
