Community Highlights: Meet Henoc Maurice of Best Version Possible Students

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henoc Maurice

Hi Henoc, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Im a husband, father, and a leader by nature. Raised by parents who immigrated from Haiti, I am a first generation Haitian American. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, came with its challenges. I possessed an extremely high energy as a child which led to the struggles, I would encounter throughout my school career.

Navigating the inner-city education system was an uphill battle for me. I endured the trauma of peer pressure, bullying, and self-exploration that many children experience in grade school. I often got into physical fights resulting in multiple disciplinary and behavioral suspensions. Teachers and staff consistently passed judgment and mishandled situations because they misunderstood me. Due to my displayed uncontrolled behavior I was labeled an ADHD student.

During my adolescent years my parents relocated to Long Island, New York, where i would have opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. I eventually would take a liking to sports and began to channel my energy to inspire my peers. Later I became a team captain, youth leader and mentor for local organizations embodying his core values, accountability, consistency, and discipline.

In 2017 I moved to North Carolina and today Im employed in the Social Services field. I encounter children in the foster care system who must deal with unfortunate circumstances out of their control. I work closely with children who’ve suffered verbal and physical abuse as well as behavioral trauma. I take advantage of every opportunity I can to give encouragement to these children who are often overlooked and misunderstood just as I was. I realized very quickly the simplest gesture such as providing a listening ear can make all the difference for someone who feels unseen and unwanted.

I have a passion to share my message for every child to hear: You are still here. You have purpose. You have a gift the world needs. I now go to different middle schools and high schools speaking to students about how they can become the best version of themselves possible.I am a character development coach and motivational speaker with a passion for helping young people realize their full potential. I specialize in guiding students to become the best versions of themselves, focusing on resilience, personal growth, and positive decision-making. I speak to students about important life skills, through engaging stories, interactive exercises, and practical strategies, I help students see the possibilities within themselves and take steps toward creating a bright future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth but it has been fulfilling. Some of the struggles along the way is learning how to properly present your message in a way that is engaging and practical. Sometimes we have a good message but not sure how pin point the different points that can be impactful. Another struggle is getting the attention of different schools and helping them realize the value you bring to their students.
