Exploring Life & Business with Turon Kendrick of Kendrick & Associates Tax Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Turon Kendrick

Hi Turon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Frostburg State University in 2005. Frostburg State University’s College of Business is AACSB accredited – which is the gold standard among business program accreditations. There are more than 15,000 colleges and universities around the world and only approximately 695 are accredited by AACSB, which means fewer than 5 percent worldwide are AACSB accredited.

In addition to having a BS in Accounting from an elite program, I am an Enrolled Agent (EA). An Enrolled Agent is a tax practitioner who is recognized at the federal level by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In fact, the Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential awarded by the IRS. As stated by the IRS “Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights”. This means I am authorized by the IRS to serve all types of taxpayers, from individuals to businesses both large and small. Additionally, being an Enrolled Agent ensures the adequate level of competency to handle all types of tax matters for my clients, from a simple late filing to an audit or any other serious tax issues my client may be facing.

Upon earning my degree in accounting and working several years of auditing in the federal government, then becoming an enrolled agent I launched my own tax practice. I initially launched my business in Baltimore, MD where I further honed my tax preparation skills servicing individuals and small businesses. Upon relocating to the triangle I relaunched my business and joined the National Association of Enrolled Agents where I networked with fellow tax professionals and gained insight on how to not only become a better tax professional but a better business owner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my business has not always been a smooth ride. I’ve faced challenges such as a lack of resources, high competition, the pandemic, and more. However, I was able to push through these challenges by staying consistent in my approach to my business plan of targeted marketing and most importantly by my faith in God. Also, one of the more important and impactful things that helped me navigate challenges was having a mentor. I strongly encourage all business owners (new and experienced) to seek and invest in quality mentorship.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The main thing I want people to know about us at Kendrick & Associates Tax Services is that we focus on the three R’s…. Relationships, Results, and Relief:

Results – We work with you on a personal level to determine the best solutions for your unique needs, then leverage our seasoned expertise to achieve the best possible results.

Relationships – We are your trusted partner in success. Our firm will offer a full range of professional services at a fair price and give you the individual attention that you deserve.

Relief – Rest assured that when a need arises, our firm is ready and capable to handle everything for you so you can focus on what matters most to you.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is very subjective, but I define success in one simple word…. “Progress”. In life and in business, we often set goals that we sometimes come short of, but if you are making progress and moving forward towards that goal then you will eventually succeed and reach your goals. I read a book once that highlighted the importance of an inch [of progress]. The message was that inches might look minor when viewed singularly and up close but when added up consistently over the right amount of time, those same inches can cover any distance in the universe. So, no matter how major or minor your progress might seem, keep moving forward one measure at a time and you will eventually succeed.
