Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Cousin of Majesstic Weddings & Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Cousin

Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As an educator, PLANNING is my life. Outside of planning daily lessons, and school events, I assist with planning family events as well. Two years ago, I planned my 35th birthday party which turned into a surprise proposal for me! Planning my party really sparked a fire in me which led me to planning my daughter’s 13th Sneaker Ball Party that following February and then my own wedding in June 2024, and I loved it!

It was really my husband’s idea for me to start wedding planning once I had gotten going with planning our wedding. He saw that it all came so naturally for me when I jumped into planning. He was blown away by my organization with all the tables, and spreadsheets, and documents that I created to keep everything aligned and flowing properly. He immediately said, “Yep, you should do this.” It took a couple of months of convincing me to really take it on outside of our own wedding planning, but I eventually gave in and I am loving every bit of it.

My drive now, is fueled by a deep appreciation for the magic that unfolds when two hearts unite, I embarked on a mission to help others experience the same enchantment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Surprisingly, yes! I think the road has been so smooth, simply because planning and being organized was pretty much my life as an educator. The planning process is right up my alley of what I love to do. Although the road has been smooth for the most part, I definitely faced a couple of challenges along the way.

Starting from scratch was one of those challenges. While I have another business (Ignited Vibes Candle Company), starting another business in a completely different field with no relation was a chore. For one, I had to research the field and get out there and work in it alongside some wedding and event planning veterans. Getting this experience was very helpful, as it gave me a first hand feel for what I was getting myself into. Along with starting from scratch, I am having to gain the trust of clients with no portfolio which was a significant hurdle. Luckily I had my wedding that I planned and designed to serve as my first event that I fully planned.

I had the pleasure of executing my first wedding on Friday, November 8th. I had a co-worker that got engaged while I was still planning my wedding and as soon as she mentioned to me that she was engaged, before I could even say congratulations, I immediately said, “Oooooo, let me plan it” and she surprisingly, immediately agreed. We planned their wedding for a little over a year. Fortunately, they were very easy and enjoyable to work with. They taught me a great deal about managing client demands while keeping stress levels low (on both ends lol). It was very important that I provided them with an stress-free planning process all the way up until the end.

Another minor hurdle was managing multiple weddings in different planning stages at the same time. This definitely required me to have impeccable time management skills and great attention to detail. Even though I have multiple couples that I am working with at once, it was still mandatory that I make each one feel prioritized, regardless of everything else I have going on.

I am also learning why some planners and venues only work with a list of preferred vendors. I am currently working on building relationships with vendors, but I know that too, will take time. As my clients satisfaction is my priority, I want to work with vendors that share that same sentiment. I am learning that all vendors will not be on time, they will not always have proper equipment, some will forget their arrival times, etc. Which just means communication is key for all parties involved.

Despite these challenges, each struggle has contributed to growth and resilience, making the journey as rewarding as it is challenging.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
