Inspiring Conversations with Typhani Gray of The Red Petal Vault

Today we’d like to introduce you to Typhani Gray

Hi Typhani , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Typhani Gray, the owner and creative force behind The Red Petal Vault. My journey to becoming a florist has been an unexpected, yet incredibly fulfilling one. After spending years as a news reporter, I made the leap to a new career path and relocated to Raleigh almost two years ago. It was during this time of transition and self-discovery that I began exploring my passion for flowers—a love that’s been with me for as long as I can remember.

Growing up, flowers always brought me joy, whether it was picking up beautiful blooms from Trader Joe’s or watching my grandmother’s poinsettias bloom each winter. Those memories sparked something in me, and I realized I wanted to turn my love for flowers into a business.

The Red Petal Vault is more than just a flower bouquet shop—it’s a tribute to my grandmother, whose love for red poinsettias inspired the name. I wanted to create a space that celebrated the warmth, beauty, and joy flowers bring into our lives. Whether you’re celebrating a special moment or looking for a custom bouquet, I’m here to help make your occasion unforgettable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but the bumps along the way have only made the journey more rewarding. One of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out what I was truly passionate about. After leaving my career as a news reporter and moving to Raleigh, I spent some time exploring different hobbies, trying to find that spark that would ignite a new path for me. Once I realized flowers were my true love, everything started falling into place.

The next hurdle was choosing the right name for the business. “The Red Petal Vault” came to me as a tribute to my grandmother. It felt like the perfect fit, but finding a name that resonated with my mission took time and reflection.

Creating the perfect bouquet also took practice and patience. At first, it wasn’t easy to perfect my floral technique—every bouquet felt like a learning experience. But with a lot of trial and error, prayer, and a deep commitment to the craft, I began to develop my own style and build the confidence I needed to bring my vision to life.

Starting a business from scratch, especially in a new city, came with its own challenges. But each struggle helped me grow stronger and more confident in what I do. Today, I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built, and I’m so grateful for the lessons learned along the way.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe two qualities have been absolutely crucial to my success: failure and consistency. I know it might sound counterintuitive, but failure is such an important part of growth. Every setback, every mistake has taught me something valuable—whether it’s about improving my floral designs, learning how to run a business, or connecting better with my customers. Failure is where the real lessons are, and I embrace it as an essential stepping stone to getting better.

Along with that, consistency has been key. Showing up every day, no matter what, and putting in the effort to deliver beautiful, thoughtful work—whether it’s a custom bouquet or a seasonal arrangement—is what builds trust and keeps my business growing. It’s the small, everyday efforts that add up to big results, and staying consistent with my passion, quality, and customer care has really helped me build a strong foundation.
