Hidden Gems: Meet Mari Siegel of Willow & Bloom Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mari Siegel

Hi Mari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been a creative outlet for me. I started when I was young and quickly fell in love with capturing moments. For a long time, it was just a hobby—I worked in real estate, and photography was something I did on the side to unwind. I’d travel and document my experiences, especially through Mexico, where I’m from.

Then COVID happened, and like so many others, I was searching for ways to stay creative during a difficult time. I had this collection of travel photos, and I decided to open an online print shop to share them. To my surprise, it did really well, which gave me the confidence to think, maybe I can actually do this.

About a year later, when I became a mom, it became clear to me how important it was to have a flexible schedule and be present for my child. I took time off work, and during that time, I gained clarity about what I truly wanted to do. Photography has always been something I’ve felt deeply connected to, so transitioning into family photography felt natural.

That’s how Willow and Bloom was born. It’s not just a business for me—it’s a way to combine my love for photography with helping families capture those precious, everyday moments. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful to be able to share my passion in a way that feels authentic to who I am.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always challenges when starting a new business. For me, it was about finding my style and bringing that into my photography in a way that felt true to me. It took time to build that vision, but the support from families in the Triangle has been incredible. Knowing that my work resonates with them has made the journey so rewarding.

We’ve been impressed with Willow & Bloom Photography , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Willow and Bloom is all about celebrating the beauty of everyday moments. I specialize in family and lifestyle photography, with a focus on capturing heartfelt, candid memories that tell a story. What sets me apart is my ability to create a warm and relaxed experience for families, so they feel comfortable and their genuine connections shine through in every photo.

My style is storytelling with a timeless, natural feel. I want each image to evoke emotion and serve as a keepsake for years to come. Whether it’s newborn sessions, maternity shoots, or capturing families as they grow, I aim to document moments that feel real and meaningful.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how personal my approach is. I take time to connect with each family, ensuring the experience feels as special as the memories we’re capturing.

For readers, I’d want them to know that Willow and Bloom isn’t just about photos—it’s about preserving the little details and fleeting moments that make life beautiful.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I listen to so many books and podcasts, but Crime Junkie is always a must. I also try to squeeze in a guided meditation once a day. Sometimes it’s a full 10 minutes, but let’s be honest, most days it’s closer to three. Even so, those few minutes have been a game-changer for balancing work and family life. It’s all about finding the little things that keep you grounded…or at least sane!
