Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Mcmillan
Hi Ebony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Greetings, not sure how brief it will be but I’ll try. I am a 44-year-old native from Augusta, Georgia. I came to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2008 for employment. As I started my journey on life, living, and discovering myself. I wanted more, I wasn’t fulfilled. I didn’t know how to get it. I didn’t know where it was. Then I found out I didn’t have to go far. I just had to look on the inside. I have always been a creative. I did the legal paper work for my clothing over three years ago. However, I did not do anything with it. Then in 2023, I could not keep sitting on it. I had to bring into existence. He was waiting on me. I became an author two years ago . After covid, I was given the opportunity to join other authors in a book about self love. This ignited something I was ready to let the world in on.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road but it’s been bearable. My walk with Christ has definitely given me the resiliency, courage, and the strength to push through. When self-sabotage, fear, worried about what others will think, it’s hard to move forward. As far as being a boutique owner, I didn’t know where to start. I didn’t know how to start. I had been sitting on Morethanragz since 2020. I had paid my state taxes for three years and had not done anything with the clothing line. Therefore, my biggest struggle was just to start. I proceeded to just go online and try to find clothing, that I felt was unique, was savvy and affordable. Then figuring out how could I get these items in bulk and wholesale prices.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently still employed as a full-time employee with my employer. I have worked remotely for over four years. This journey in life, has granted me many opportunities to work in several areas. However, each opportunity provided something I would use. I am proud of my time in law enforcement, as a Detention Officer and Probation Officer. I have also worked for The Vanguard group which helped me learn about investments, being an author, entrepreneur, and most importantly a mom. I’m no longer afraid of letting people know who I am. I am no longer trying to match energy. I’m shifting the atmosphere.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is that I am living life how I want. Knowing that through it all, in spite of all the disappointments, doubt, the unknown, I’m still here. That I am a child of God. I am favored. I am chosen, and I will not lack. I am happy to provide a life for myself and my son. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, traveling and making new memories. I am happy that I was able to get out of my own way. That my curiosity for something else in life is guiding me to bigger and better things in life. I am happy to be an example of what don’t give up looks like. I am happy to have found peace from within.
