Welcome to my world, where resilience meets passion, and love for sports takes a creative form.
I’m Crystal Waddell, the proud founder of Collage and Wood. My journey began when I became a MOM and sought a way to balance my love for my son with the need to contribute financially to our family.
This challenge sparked my creativity, leading me to transform my passion for creating handmade
photo collages on wooden letters into a thriving business.
Because my biological mother decided she couldn’t be my mother after all, I know the power of love
and support. That’s why I ensure every customer, especially parents, feels seen, valued, and
appreciated when they interact with us at Collage and Wood.
My Christian faith, commitment to family, and relentless work ethic are the cornerstones of my business. Like the sports competitions that dominated most of my life, I’m always pushing Collage and Wood to outdo yesterday’s performance.
Do you remember the thrill of making it to the state tournament? I certainly do, having achieved this
feat three times during high school!
Now, I bring that same excitement to other athletes and their families through my carefully crafted collages – tangible mementos of magical moments.
At Collage and Wood, every email answered and every product created is a testament to my commitment to customer care. I want every customer, particularly moms, to feel genuinely cared for and important.
As a biracial woman in an interracial marriage, I understand the struggles of marginalized individuals. I incorporate my Christian faith into my business, respecting and valuing the dignity of every person as a creation of God.
To sum up my journey, I’ll share a childhood anecdote: despite enduring two skin grafts before theage of one, I refused to let casts stop me. Instead of crawling, I got up and walked. That’s my approach to every problem – there’s always a solution if you’re willing to stand up and find it.
This spirit of resilience and determination fuels Collage and Wood, propelling it towards greater heights.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had my share of trials. An ACL injury that nearly ended my basketball career during my junior
year of high school shook my identity and led to a battle with mental health issues.
This experience instilled in me a deep understanding of the mental health needs of athletes, which I strive to address through my work.
Despite facing financial struggles and a heart attack in 2020, my resolve has only grown stronger.
I’m committed to what truly matters – living a meaningful life and making a positive difference in the world.
