Rising Stars: Meet Darris Cue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darris Cue

Hi Darris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my start as a private chef/caterer by circumstance. April 2020 was the beginning of the nationwide pandemic. Unprecedented times. So with public gatherings reduced to a minimum, there was a market for me to tap into. I always wanted to get back into the culinary field so this was the perfect opportunity for me. My good friend/fellow chef, Alexis Riddick, reached out to me to help her with a private booking over 4 years ago and I haven’t looked back since.

I got to where I am today by referral and word of mouth. Most of my clientele are repeats or referred to by my repeat clients. I take pride in my work. I believe your food should look good AND taste good. Professionalism is key because they are buying YOU; not just your product. Also being my authentic self helps alot as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an awesome journey so far. When I have encountered a few bumps on the road, I take it stride and as a learning experience. I do my best to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

One of the struggles I have learned is that I am not for everyone. The good news is that it seems that someone is always for me. I sometimes fell slighted when I am not mentioned for the best. I have to remind myself is it the “best” or the most “popular?” I know sometimes those lines can be blurred. Another struggle is no customer is the same. You have to make sure you are prepared for anything and everything. It is a blessing that I that I have a constant flow of clientele and I have room for so much more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a private chef/caterer as well as a food content creator. I specialize in making beautiful dishes that are as delicious as it looks. Food wise, I known for my mac and cheese, grits and shockingly green beans (who knew?)

Also people know me for my reels I create on Facebook/IG. I love to incorporate my favorite music into the creation of my content and splash some comedy in there. One thing I am proud of is the unofficial “You Got Food At The House” series I have created. It encourages (along with myself) that you can create some beautiful and tasty meals with food you have already in your fridge, your pantry, and/or your freezer.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Everyone needs a little luck to succeed. However your faith, character, and skills will carry you as far as you can in life and business.
