Daily Inspiration: Meet Paul Hurley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Hurley

Paul, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career started when my marriage ended. After 6 months of adjusting to being alone I decided I wanted a change of scenery. I wanted more of what life had to offer. So one night I just started adding people on social media that were living a life I wanted to live. One of these new friends by chance was a film producer and invited me to a film premiere of her newest film. I thought to myself how cool right.. So I went out, bought a new suit and went! I met some very talented film makers and actors and exchanged social network sites etc.
Then Covid hit and everything stopped.. After that delay lifted I was contacted by a director who was looking for a guy to play a bouncer in her film. Before Covid hit I had been in the bar business as a bouncer for almost 30yrs. So I guess you could call my first break into the industry as a method actor fate.
Never meeting a stranger I made friends on that set which later referred me to another film and it snowballed from there! 3yrs and 30 projects later I’m still chasing the dream. But I think it’s more the journey that’s the enjoyable part rather the goal of being on top or famous.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d have to say my biggest obstacle is taking someone for their word.
I’m very big on respect, and will always stand firm to my beliefs of what’s right or fair. Taking a stand tends to disturb some and then come the threats of being blacklisted or losing a role etc.
A submissive butt kisser I am not. But as an actor and team player I’ll do a lot behind the camera as well to get the project done, and done right! Just be straight up from the start and the level of loyalty and respect never fades!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My passion is acting and film making. Full time I utilize my electronics degree and work for an independent government contractor. I install, service and maintain automated security access systems. Sometimes these systems require custom fitting so I also am a welder and fabricator. I enjoy the creative part of the job. Just another outlet for my creative side to flourish.
