Meet Cameron Marshall of CAM Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Marshall.

Cameron Marshall

Hi Cameron, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In college at NC state university in 2018, one of my friends Erick asked if I wanted my pictures taken at Pullen Park. After he took some pictures of me, he handed me the camera to snap some of him. He looked at the pictures I took and told me that I had captured some really good frames. After that day, I would find myself taking pictures on my phone and editing them just to make them look cool. Although he gave me a lot of encouragement, I never put too much thought into it. Fast forward to December 2023, I wanted to buy a camera to record my YouTube videos to have better quality since I was recording them on my iPhone 11. Once I got the camera I figured “why not take some pictures with it.” I asked my sister and brother in law to meet me at Historic Yates Mill County Park so I can learn my camera and just see what I could do with it. Although the pictures didn’t turn out great, a passion was immediately ignited at first click. I would be lying if I said I didn’t think back to that time in 2018 taking pictures in Pullen Park and thought to myself “I should have started then.” From there I went all in with education and practice to learn my camera, take great pictures, and learn the business side of things to grow in photography. I found myself in January booking a plane ticket to Louisville, Kentucky to attend Imaging USA, a conference for photographers and videographers from all around the nation to network and grow in their art. Since then, I have been enjoying the process. Capturing everything from grad shoots, to engagement sessions, to weddings. This is only the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel with entrepreneurship, it’s never all smooth. You have the highs of interaction with new people, booking clients, shooting weddings, grad sessions, studio sessions etc. Then the struggles have been just making a name for myself. As the new kid on the block I’m starting at the bottom in a space that is already saturated with other creatives. It’s a competitive industry and trying to stand out as “the one” can be difficult, but it’s a challenge I’m facing head on and enjoying the journey along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I chose the name CAM Photography after some inspiration from my sister in law. Of course my name is Cameron and everyone calls me Cam for short. So she took that and made it an acronym “Capturing Authentic Moments.” The name stuck and I’ve been riding with it ever since and have made that the foundation of how I capture images.

I specialize in traditional weddings and portrait photography while newly expanding into studio and headshot photography. Additionally, even though I have photography in the name, I also do videography.

I believe the main thing that sets me apart from other wedding and portrait photographers is turn around time. I don’t want to sit on your images until the excitement dies down and you get back to normal life. I promise clients to have their wedding pictures back to them in 7 days and all other sessions back to them in 3 days. Imagine being on your honeymoon and being able to relive the best day of your life with your spouse versus looking through your album after a long day of work.

Something that I really want readers to know about my brand is that I’m here for you. I’m not a person who chose this career for money, but passion to make people smile, solve their problems, and create a legacy for them to pass down for generations. Pictures are so important to me because you never know when that will be the only thing you have left of your loved ones. My best friend Sam Mukau passed away in 2022 from cancer, and it pains me that I look through my camera roll and we only have a few pictures together through an 11 year relationship. I want to make sure memories are preserved in a way that they will never be forgotten.

Lastly, I feel the services that I offer are unique, very friendly, and reasonable. I want to make sure each client gets a experience personally tailored to them and I can proudly say that everyone who chooses me will get just that and great pictures.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Family, friends, having a camera in my hands, just a few things that make me happy. These things always bring a smile to my face. However, as most know happiness is a temporarily feeling. I set out to find what brings me Joy which is constant. I find that Joy in my relationship with Jesus. Accepting Christ is the best decision I’ve ever made and I can have Joy in my life and profession. If things aren’t going great in life it’s easy to be unhappy, understandably so, but with Joy it’s hard for the circumstances in front of you to determine your mood.
