Check Out Heather Place’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Place

Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an actor/producer/voiceover artist and radio personality. I grew-up in Children’s Theatre and majored in Drama in college. My Freshman year at the University of Georgia, I worked as a featured extra on a 20th Century Fox television series that was shot on location in Athens. I ended-up appearing in 3 episodes and became fascinated with the film and television industry. After UGA, I moved to Atlanta, got an agent and started pursuing acting professionally. Over the years, I became a content creator and producer and do mainly independent film all over the Southeast. I also produce music videos. I’m on the producing teams for 2 projects that are currently on the film festival circuit. Both projects have been selected for multiple festivals and have won some awards! I also co-host and co-produce a weekly radio show that airs locally and streams globally. I’m currently based in the Charlotte area. I’ve been married for 35 years and have a beautiful daughter who lives in Raleigh.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been quite the journey! I did my first professional acting job over 40 years ago and have been “pounding the pavements” ever since… In my early career, I focused on acting and modeling. Lots of rejection. I worked mainly in Atlanta, but would go out to L.A. for Pilot Seasons and other gigs. I toured with Auto Shows for 8 seasons and traveled all over the country. I also moved to Wilmington, NC when the film studio opened-up there and did a lot of stand-in, photo double and stunt double work. I treated every film set I walked on as “film school” and tried to learn everything I could about what it takes to make a movie. After my daughter was born, I changed my focus to teaching and producing. I founded a Children’s Theatre program and produced a Pilot for a children’s television show. I enjoyed working with my daughter and having her on set with me. Now that she’s grown, I’m doing mostly indie film, both as an actor and producer and producing music videos. I also do a lot of voiceover work and enjoy doing a weekly radio show.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a storyteller. Whether I’m acting, casting, producing or lending my voice to a project, I try to serve the story. I love to collaborate with other Creatives and wear multiple hats on a project. I’m really proud of a recent project that I produced and played a small role in. It’s a SAG Short Film, written and directed by Jessica Wilson. When I first read it, I knew that I wanted to do whatever it took to serve Jessie’s vision and see it get made. We produced it under a SAG Micro Budget Agreement and shot it in 3 days! In addition to acting and producing, I helped with casting, location scouting and wardrobe. It was such an amazing cast, crew and production team. We just started submitting it to film festivals and it has already been selected for several and is starting to win awards on the festival circuit!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Love and family. I recently lost my younger brother unexpectedly, then my mom soon after that. My dad passed away many years ago, much too young. Tomorrow is not promised. Tell the people in your life that you love them any chance you get. I have such a strong support system with my husband, my daughter, my surviving siblings, close friends and producing partners. I always strive to foster a family atmosphere on every set I work on. The bond that links family members is not always one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s lives. If you assemble the right people, you can truly make movie magic–even after 12 hours on a set!
