Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayvonia Minnis
Hi Dayvonia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sure!,
Growing up, my story was one of self-discovery and resilience. In elementary school, I often felt like the odd one out, picked on and not accepted by my peers. Those experiences carried over into middle school, where the teasing turned into harsh words. Being told I was ugly left a deep imprint on me, and my self-esteem took a big hit.
It wasn’t until high school that I began to find my voice, though not in the traditional sense. I wasn’t vocal yet, but I found a way to express myself through what I wore. Fashion became my safe space and creative outlet—a way to communicate my identity without words. That passion eventually led me to start my clothing line, Day’La Couture, where I bring my love for bold, empowering designs to life. It’s not just about clothing for me—it’s about giving others a way to feel seen, confident, and unique.
As I grew older, I finally found my true voice—literally and figuratively. I realized that my story, my experiences, and my growth could inspire others. That realization drove me to start my talk show, Seize the Day, where I use my platform to empower people to embrace their journeys, overcome challenges, and live life fully.
What once felt like obstacles have become stepping stones to the person I am today. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about what’s still to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but every twist and turn has taught me something valuable. At 25, right after I got out of the military and started school, I was diagnosed with cancer. It was one of the toughest seasons of my life—going through chemotherapy while being a full-time student. Balancing treatments, assignments, and trying to hold it together emotionally was overwhelming, but I pushed through.
When that chapter ended, life presented another challenge. Both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer, and supporting them through their battles was incredibly hard. We leaned on each other through the darkest days, and by God’s grace, we all came out on the other side. Now, all three of us are cancer-free, and that’s a testimony I’ll always carry with me.
This year has brought new challenges. Losing my job and stepping fully into entrepreneurship has been a different kind of struggle. No one really prepares you for the uncertainty that comes with being a full-time entrepreneur. God has given me peace through this, I have not lacked one thing! Funny enough, I prayed for this moment, to have the freedom to focus on my dreams, although this transition hasn’t been easy. Still, I’m embracing this season, trusting and knowing that it’s part of my journey, and learning as I go. Every struggle has taught me something valuable, and I know it’s all leading to something greater.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I do is rooted in creativity, self-expression, and faith. I’m the founder of Day’La Couture, a clothing line where fashion meets individuality.
Through my designs, I strive to create pieces that empower people to express who they are unapologetically.
I’m also the host of Seize the Day, a talk show dedicated to uplifting and inspiring others to embrace their journeys and live life with purpose.
What I specialize in is creating environments that encourage people to fully express themselves, whether it’s through what they wear, how they think, or how they navigate life. I want everyone I work with to feel seen, valued, and free to be themselves.
I’m known for my love of fashion and my deep faith in God. These two passions have always been central to who I am and what I do. My love for God influences every aspect of my life and work—it’s the foundation for my creativity and my purpose.
Out of everything I’ve done, the moment I’m most proud of is the day I accepted the call to become a minister of the Gospel.
That decision transformed my life and gave me a clearer understanding of why I’m here: to serve, inspire, and help others grow spiritually, emotionally, and creatively.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend faith, fashion, and purpose in a way that connects with people on a personal level.
Whether it’s through my designs, my talk show, or my ministry, my goal is always to leave others feeling inspired and closer to who they’re meant to be.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me so many lessons, both personally and professionally. One of the biggest was the importance of trusting God through everything. The uncertainty and fear during that time were overwhelming, but I leaned on my faith more than ever. Trusting God gave me the strength and peace to keep going, even when everything around me felt chaotic.
As an essential worker in public safety, I didn’t have the option to stay home. I had to show up every day, knowing the risks, but also knowing that my work was making a difference. That experience taught me resilience and the value of service—putting the needs of others before my own and trusting that God would see me through.
Working through the crisis also gave me a new appreciation for life and for the people around me. It reminded me to cherish every moment and to take nothing for granted. I learned the importance of balance—making time to care for myself spiritually, mentally, and physically while also staying committed to my role.
Ultimately, the pandemic reinforced that God is faithful, even in the most challenging seasons. It taught me to keep trusting, keep serving, and keep believing that no matter how hard things get, there’s a purpose in the process.
