Hi, I’m Jess Owens, a Raleigh-based hairstylist and Instagram influencer, and I’ve proudly called this city home for nearly a decade. My journey in hairstyling began at Sam and Bill’s Hair Designs, a longstanding institution in Raleigh, where I honed my skills as a color specialist for over six years. After welcoming my daughter a little over two years ago, I embarked on my social media journey with @JessOwensDaily, sharing facets of motherhood, fashion, wellness, and beauty. By day, I’m actively involved with Models for Charity, a philanthropic organization dedicated to giving back to the local community. I love creating humorous, relatable content that brings joy and inspiration to others while fostering connections with fellow moms, local businesses, and my amazing community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been a smooth road overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a hairstylist, one of the ongoing challenges is managing clients’ expectations, especially when they bring inspiration photos that are heavily filtered or generated by AI, leading to unrealistic aspirations. It’s my responsibility to guide them toward achievable results and deliver the hair of their dreams. In the realm of content creation, staying innovative and overcoming creative blocks can be demanding. With trends constantly evolving and algorithms perpetually changing, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
My biggest piece of advice?
Be authentic. Stay original, embrace creativity, and never apologize for it—you’ll attract the right audience and build a community that truly connects with you.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m not your typical influencer promoting big brands or unattainable lifestyles. I’m an everyday mom sharing the latest Target sales or amazing finds from Amazon or Walmart. As a working mother, I believe this relatability resonates with many people. Over the past two years as a content creator, I’ve cultivated an incredible audience that inspires me daily.
