Exploring Life & Business with Edgar Bernal of Revista Latina LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Bernal

Hi Edgar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Revista Latina: “The place where we discover many cultures, but the pride of belonging to each one unites us.”

Revista Latina, founded in 2018 by Edgar Bernal, is an organization dedicated to promoting multicultural, educational, social, and entrepreneurial activities for Mexicans and Latin Americans living in North Carolina, United States. Over the years, we have carried out various initiatives and projects to celebrate culture, art, and entrepreneurship within the Mexican and Latin American communities in the region. These include cultural festivals, book publications, an online store for Latin artists, support during the COVID-19 pandemic, and virtual events.

Revista Latina has become a vital resource for Mexican and Latin American immigrants in North Carolina, offering guidance, information, and connections to help them thrive in their new lives abroad.

In 2022, Revista Latina was honored with the Ohtli Award. This prestigious recognition highlighted our commitment to fostering the culture, arts, and businesses of Mexican and Latin American communities in this part of the world. Our work serves as a beacon, providing invaluable information and support to immigrants in their quest for progress and opportunity, not only in North Carolina but beyond.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of Revista Latina has been rewarding, but it hasn’t always been smooth. After launching impactful initiatives like the first Cultural Festival for Children’s Day in Raleigh, North Carolina; the “Esto es México” Project, a visual presentation showcasing Mexico from the perspective of North Carolina; and the Day of the Dead Celebration with the community—including the creation of multiple altars representing various Mexican states—we faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For approximately two years, we had to find innovative ways to continue promoting and hosting these activities. This period of adaptation, though difficult, turned into an opportunity for growth. By pivoting to virtual platforms, Revista Latina expanded its reach beyond North Carolina, gaining participation from other U.S. states and Latin American countries.

Some of the highlights from this era include the 2020 RL Cultural Festival for Children’s Day – Virtual Edition, 3D Digital Galleries for Mexican Artists living in North Carolina, and the Virtual Mexican Independence Day Celebration. These projects allowed us to extend Revista Latina’s influence globally, implementing tools like mobile apps and Alexa to connect with a wider audience.

Additionally, we’ve ventured into new areas, such as publishing through Revista Latina Editorial, which shares the stories of Mexican and Latin American individuals both within and outside their countries of origin. More recently, we launched Revista Latina Stream, an internet audio platform offering informative and entertaining content. These innovations allowed us to navigate the challenges of the pandemic while expanding our mission to promote culture, art, and community far beyond its original scope.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Revista Latina is built on the principles of “See, Do, and Let Do,” reflecting our philosophy of empowerment, collaboration, and action. Founded in 2018, we represent the collective effort, talent, creativity, organizational skills, and passion of a dedicated team of Latin Americans united by a shared purpose: to celebrate and uplift our culture beyond our national borders.

Our organization specializes in promoting multicultural, educational, social, and business initiatives, with a focus on showcasing the richness of Mexican and Latin American heritage. From cultural festivals and community events to virtual projects and publishing initiatives, our mission is to create opportunities for connection and growth within and beyond North Carolina.

What sets us apart is our commitment to innovation and inclusivity. We have transitioned seamlessly into the digital age, offering virtual cultural events, mobile applications, and even an internet streaming platform, Revista Latina Stream, to deliver informative and entertaining content to a global audience. Through Revista Latina Editorial, we also publish books that tell the stories of remarkable Mexican and Latin American individuals, preserving and sharing their legacies.

Brand-wise, we take pride in being a beacon of representation and unity for the Latin American community. Revista Latina, embodies harmony, balance, and the spirit of togetherness that drives everything we do.

We want readers to know that Revista Latina is more than a publication—it’s a movement. Whether it’s connecting artists with audiences, promoting businesses, or celebrating our cultural traditions, we are committed to creating spaces where Latin Americans can thrive, both in their local communities and on a global stage.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
As the founder of Revista Latina, my advice to any immigrant dreaming of starting something new—be it a business, community project, or creative endeavor—is to embrace adaptation as an opportunity for growth. Challenges are inevitable, but each obstacle can be a stepping stone if approached with a mindset of learning and resilience. It’s equally important to stay rooted in the purpose that inspired you to start; that passion will be the driving force that keeps you moving forward during tough times. Don’t be afraid to innovate when faced with limitations; I wish I had known early on how much creativity and connecting with support networks can open unexpected doors. Building a community and fostering meaningful relationships is essential because no one achieves success alone. Patience and persistence are key, as success rarely happens overnight—celebrate every small win and trust the process. Starting out can feel intimidating, but with determination and resilience, you can turn every challenge into an opportunity and build a journey that is both rewarding and impactful.
