Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lee

Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sandra Myers and I have each been working in the matchmaking industry since the late-90’s. For years we had talked about how we could do things better if we opened our own matchmaking firm, but it remained a dream until I almost lost my life in 2020. On May 10th, 2020, I suffered a cardiac arrest while driving and went unconscious with my foot on the gas, driving over several lanes of traffic before crashing into a brick home. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. My heart had to be restarted with a defibrillator. When I woke up in the hospital after surgery to repair my liver and spleen, I had a renewed sense of purpose and I knew that I wanted to create more impact in the world. Sandra and I got to work immediately and we launched Select Date Society on June 1st, 2020.

We have truly become what a luxury matchmaking firm should be, providing white glove service to our highly selective clients. In the past several years, we have achieved more success for our clients than we had at the large matchmaking firms that Sandra and I had previously worked for. Last year, we had 5 marriages, several couples move in together, and one baby born!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business is never easy and we have learned some important lessons along the way. We’ve learned to be more selective about the clients we take on. By choosing to only work with clients who we feel confident in representing, we have protected our success rate. Rather than expanding our client base, we have learned that remaining small has been a better strategy. By working with a limited client base, we are able to stay laser focused on getting results for those clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Select Date Society?
Select Date Society is a luxury matchmaking firm. We represent high-net-worth singles throughout the United States. Our clients are often high profile individuals who prefer the discretion of working with a matchmaker rather than public dating apps. We work as executive headhunters for our client’s love lives. Our team is made up of experienced matchmakers who haves decades of experience in the love industry. We were honored to be recognized as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in America by The INC 5000 last year.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I start every day by listening to a business or dating related podcast or audible book while I take my morning walk. Some of my favorite podcasts include My First Million and Business Untitled. The dating books that I recommend for my clients to read are How Not To Die Alone by Logan Ury and Marry Him by Lori Gottlieb. My husband and I completed The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work leadership training with The Gottman Institute and we have applied what we learned to our own marriage. I believe that life is about growth and learning new skills is incredibly important.
