Hidden Gems: Meet Quianna Brown of Clearskin and Wellness Aesthetics by NCCD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quianna Brown

Hi Quianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’d like to talk more about the business than me, but my mother has been the Office Manager for Dr. Jeffrey Scales, the owner of The North Carolina Center for Dermatology for 20+ years. That was actually my first job at 16 years old, helping out with the phones, scheduling and assisting the billing and clinical managers. I will always be thankful for that opportunity because not only was it my first job, I was allowed to come back in college and after which is I how got to where I am today. Clearskin and Wellness Aesthetics was thought about by our P.A. Anay Castro and Dr. Scales. She is an excellent dermatologist but also very skilled in cosmetic services. With her strong cultural, dermatology, and emergency medicine background and my great business skills, along with a great staff of course, we have worked hard to provide services to assist in everyone’s skin journey. Make you feel great while showing great results. We genuinely care about everyone’s progress and experience while in our MedSpa. We’ve been open for 1 year and thankful for everyone that has supported us and trusted us.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, we’re just getting started. We started off in The North Carolina Center for Dermatology doing simple cosmetic services but eventually expanded to having a couple of lasers and devices. We’re still learning and adjusting to the cosmetic world as we have a strong background in medical dermatology. For the most part it’s been a pretty smooth road, with a few bumps here and there but nothing drastic. I honestly can’t complain about our transition into this new space. It has been a learning experience and very rewarding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a black owned medical spa in Durham, NC. Our owner, Dr. Jeffrey Scales has had his own dermatology practice for 25+ years in this community. We started off doing small cosmetic services in his practice, such as facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasions, but as our clientele expanded we felt that so should we. So, with the help of our Physician Assistant, Mrs. Anay Castro, the idea for Clearskin and Wellness Aesthetics emerged. Since opening, we have added several new services, including laser hair removal, microneedling, botox, filler, and so much more. We have a strong background and history in working with skin of color, so I would consider that to be one of our specialities. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for all individuals regardless of gender, race, or background. Our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and assisting our patients achieve their desired results.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is being in the kitchen watching and helping my mom cook. So many hours of talking, laughs, and of course good food!
