Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Leigh

Hi Abby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve worked in radio for about 8 years now! I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work in the music industry being that I’m a musician myself. When I got into college, I pursued a degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and got an internship and a local country radio station in Lafayette, Louisiana, KXKC. This internship turned into a part time job which eventually turned into full time work when I graduated college. I then moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to work for WTGE. I was there for about 4 years until I accepted a position at WQDR in Raleigh in August of 2023!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. There are always bumps in the road no matter what the journey may be. I had a lot of growing to do. Mainly in advocating for myself. School doesn’t teach you how to ask for a pay raise or how to be your own voice. That comes with experience and age. No one tells you how hard it is to look someone in the eye and say, “This is not good enough for me. I need to go seek more for myself.”

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a musician and local radio personality with 94.7 QDR. I am most known for my work on the radio. I have a radio show Monday-Friday 11am-3pm on QDR. It’s so much fun! I play acoustic gigs out in the community from time to time as well.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My work ethic. If I want something, nothing is going to stand in the way of me getting it. I may not know exactly how I’m going to reach my goal in the moment of setting it, but it will get met. Every single time on is set.
