Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayme Williams
Hi Jayme, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I knew after graduating high school I wanted to go and pursue my dreams of being a cosmetologist.. I started Cosmetology school in 2008 .. While I was in school I assisted with local hairstylists in my area.. I loved gaining as much knowledge from each stylist to use when I graduated.. When I first started doing hair we had to rely on word of mouth, business cards, or ads in your local newspaper to build our businesses.. There was really no social media platform used to gain clients or that wasn’t a huge deal as it is now.. I ended up finding my forever home salon at “The Beauty Box” in Kinston, NC.. Starting off at a well established salon definitely helped build my clientele.. Before then there was many times I wanted to give up on my career because I felt like I was not growing in this business like I wanted too.. When they say you starve first starting out and your a slave to this business until you build your clientele is so true.. After having my first child I knew I needed to step up my game.. So after much consideration I decided to make my “hair” instagram page.. I started in 2018.. It made me find my passion and confidence again in doing hair.. I was able to connect with so many other hairstylists around the world who were likeminded as myself.. Fast forward to 2025 .. i built my own salon.. I now have 25k followers on instagram and an amazing clientele, brand partnerships, hair recognitions, and I have been able to educate other hairstylists .. Instagram changed the game for me and allowed me to be the stylist I am today and I am forever grateful for this opportunity… What I’ve learned through my journey is to never give up on your goals and dreams.. It may take a while but you will arrive at your destination when it’s time..
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not… It took me a while to find the salon that I would call home.. I went through 4 salons before I found the right fit.. I have also had my fair share of mistakes in the hair industry.. but I find that those mistakes helped make me into the stylist I am now.. if you don’t make those mistakes you don’t learn… because in this industry you learn something new every single day!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Brunettes and Lived in Color.. I’m definitely more known as a brunette specialist.. I always strive for my clients to have healthy beautiful hair and guide them along the way of achieving that.. I’m most proud of my work ethic… I will work myself to death.. which is not always the best for me health wise.. But I am so passionate about my career that I’m most happy when I’m creating art behind the chair and making my clients feel beautiful! I’m a very honest and real person… I will tell you more than likely what you don’t want to here if it’s in your best interest.. especially when it comes to the health and goals of your hair! My clients love that about me and trust me even more because I’m very upfront and honest!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My childhood memory has nothing to do with hair.. honestly I thought I wanted to be a teacher.. but I would say the fact that there was no social media or not a lot of electronics that forced us to use our imaginations and go outside and play will always be my favorite memories! That imagination and dreaming that I had in my childhood definitely made me the dreamer I am now!!
