Life & Work with Olivia Burke of Fayetteville,North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Burke

Hi Olivia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Olivia Burke. I am a Content Creator,Writer and Community Organizer who has worked on multiple political campaigns, including the Biden-Harris campaign and the Harris-Walz campaign. I also create content on platforms such as Instagram and YouTube about topics like politics, pop culture, and my life.

I started creating content around 2012 on Instagram when the app became popular at my high school. I posted pictures of my outfits and my makeup looks. Shortly after joining Instagram, I started posting videos on YouTube. I quickly fell in love with content creation, and using it as a form of self expression. Now, I make videos about both myself and topics that are close to my heart like federal and local politics, and why stars like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift are so successful.

I got my first job as an Organizer in 2020. I worked for the North Carolina Coordinated Campaign which allowed me to work for both the Biden-Harris campaign and the North Carolina Democratic Party. After this campaign ended, I went on to work on the Andrea Campbell for Mayor campaign in Boston,Massachusetts, the Dan Totten for City Council campaign in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the North Carolina Coordinated Campaign again in 2024.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has not always been smooth. Organizing is a very rewarding career but it can also be very challenging. There are many hard days, long hours, and resume gaps between campaigns that lie amongst the parties and friendly volunteers. You also have to adapt to new technology like VoteBuilder and Mobilize.

Content creation is also far from easy. Sometimes you have videos that get hundreds of thousands of views and sometimes you put so much time and effort into a video and then it will only get ten views.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in community organizing. This looks like connecting with everyday Americans through various outreach methods like going to farmers markets and communicating with voters via phone call and text. I am most proud of the relationships I have built with the amazing people I have met through doing campaigns.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Raleigh is the warm welcoming people and diverse culture. Downtown Raleigh has such a wide array of cultural cuisines to choose from as well as many forms of entertainment ranging from concerts to art galleries. My least favorite thing about Raleigh is obviously the traffic and the never ending saga that is parking in downtown Raleigh.
