Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Williams

Hi Drew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for creating unforgettable events began when I was just 12 years old, shadowing my father as he DJ’d weddings, school dances, and a variety of other celebrations. Those early experiences gave me a front-row seat to how music and atmosphere can transform a moment into a memory. Over the years, I gained hands-on experience working at all kinds of events for various DJ and audiovisual companies around the Triangle area.

After graduating from NC State University with a degree in finance, I decided to take a leap and carve my own path. Instead of heading into the corporate world, I launched Signature Sound & Lighting, combining my love for music, events, and creating incredible experiences. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of clients to bring their visions to life and I’m excited for what’s to come as my business continues to grow!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—starting a business comes with its fair share of challenges. In the beginning, there was so much to set up: building a website, creating social media profiles, designing marketing materials, and just getting the word out. It was overwhelming because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Starting out felt a lot like walking around an unfamiliar room in the dark—the only way to figure out where you’re going is by bumping into obstacles and learning from the experience.

One of the biggest hurdles was learning how to do sales and networking. As someone who didn’t have much experience in those areas, it took time to figure out how to present myself and the business in a way that resonated with potential clients and fellow vendors. Another major challenge has been learning how to hire and manage people. It’s a skill I’m still refining, but it’s been a significant bottleneck for us in growing the business. That said, every challenge has been an opportunity to grow and its been a really fun process along the way!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business, Signature Sound & Lighting, provides professional DJ and photo booth services in the Raleigh area. While we primarily cater to weddings and corporate parties, we’re ready to bring the right vibe to any event that needs music or audiovisual expertise.

What sets us apart is our focus on creating the perfect atmosphere while being incredibly easy to work with. From the initial planning stages to the last song of the night, we make sure everything is seamless and stress-free for our clients. Many DJ companies rely heavily on automations and don’t truly connect with their clients—but we take a much more personal approach. We want our clients to feel a really at home personal experience, not like just another number in our system.

We’re also proud of our team of experienced and talented DJs, which allows us to excel at a wide variety of events. Having a team really allows us to have the best DJ for each client at their event which is super important to us. Whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a private celebration, we know how to tailor the experience to meet the client’s expectations.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the feedback we receive from our clients. There’s nothing better than seeing another 5-star review roll in from someone whose vision we helped bring to life. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do—creating unforgettable memories through music and celebration.

Word of mouth is so important to growth in the DJ business. Many of our events come from people who experienced our services firsthand at past events and loved what they saw.
