Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in 2020 during the covid 19 era, I started a cleaning service in South Carolina while I was attending a community college in my area and working at the same community college working in the customer service department.
I wanted to advertise my business and went straight to Facebook, not knowing a thing about how to promote a business on social media. I started playing around on Facebook and discovered Facebook ads and started educating myself on how Facebook ads worked. I made the decision to quit my job and focus solely on my business, and not even two weeks later, I landed my first cleaning contract. After landing my first cleaning contract, it was nothing but up from there. I didn’t know a thing about running a business, so I was just going with the flow of things, and if I was making money, that’s all that mattered to me.
Now it’s 2021, my first full year in business, and when I looked over my financials, me and my now ex-boyfriend that helped me with the cleaning made $80,000 in our first year in business. I couldn’t believe we made that much money in one year all because of advertising on Facebook, Instagram, some e-mail marketing here and there, and of course word of mouth. We were booked and busy, literally working 6 days a week, non-stop. When the end of 2021 came, I looked at the financials, and we made a little over $100,000 in 2021. Even though I was excited about the money we were making, things started taking a turn for the worse. I started having bad panic attacks because of the stress of running a business and never having days off because we were too booked and busy. It got to the point where we had too many customers and not enough people to handle it all, so that meant working nonstop. I wanted help in my business, but I was so booked and busy I couldn’t even step away to get the help I needed. Eventually my panic attacks got worse to where it put me in the hospital, so I had no choice but to quit my cleaning service because my health wasn’t getting any better.
In 2024 I moved back to Fayetteville North Carolina to get a fresh start in life. I knew I wanted to start a business of some sort, I just didn’t want to do another cleaning service, so after some planning and thinking, that’s when I came up with the Idea of doing digital marketing for businesses. Since I have the experience with using social media for all my advertising purposes when I had my cleaning service and was able to make really good money just off of using Facebook and Instagram to promote my business. I want to do the same for businesses that may not know how to use Facebook ads, and help scale their business to its full potential, and be a mentor on how to use the resources available to help grow their business, so they don’t run into the same mistakes I made. It was definitely a slow start with my digital marketing business, but now I’m starting to get some recognition for the worked I’ve done for two businesses so far, I now know that this is my calling, and I’m excited to see how my business is going to grow in 2025.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely a slow process to get my first customer to where I actually had to get a job working back in retail. I started T.A.R Digital Marketing Group in May of 2024, and in July of 2024 I went back to work because being broke is not fun lol. My goal was to work and use the money to help scale and grow my business, but I ended up dedicating my time fully to my job to where I put T.A.R Digital marketing group on the back burner. November of 2024, I made the decision to get back to promoting my business now that life was back under control, and in December of 2024, I landed my first client off advertising my business on Facebook.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Established in 2024, I started T.A.R Digital Marketing Group as an independent Social Media Consultant located in Fayetteville North Carolina, to provide digital marketing services to business owners using social media platforms to help scale their business to its full potential. I help businesses gain exposure to the right audiences, increase their followers, and gain potential sales and leads through a combination of custom Paid Ad’s, e-mail marketing and web development services.
Even though my experience is mainly self-taught because of having my own business, I was able to make my cleaning service 6 figures just by using Facebook and Instagram Paid Ads.
My Professional experience is in Human Resources, I use to work for a hospital in South Carolina as a Human resources representative where I use to onboard doctors, nurses, surgical techs etc. and make sure they had the proper education, licensing, i9 documentations, per the job descriptions. Once I onboarded the new hires, I became their personal HR Rep so if they ran into any issues along the way, they would contact me, and I would guide them to the people or resources needed to help their situation.
I feel that my overall experience with working in HR shows that I have compassion for people, and the understanding on what is needed to run a business properly, especially if you’re working with people directly.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I always recommend finding someone in your business field that’s already successful in their business to get seek guidance, motivation, resources, and any coaching classes they may offer to help build your business to its fullest potential, with less mistakes.
In business you’re going to make a mistake or two, but it’s part of trial and error, and it’s going to make you stronger, and more experienced as the owner of your business.
I took some training courses in digital marketing with Chegg skills, watched YouTube videos, and I found a successful digital marketer on Facebook that I follow, that offered a free master class that opened my eyes to resources I didn’t even know was even available. So, I definitely recommend finding a mentor to follow, take some training courses, or follow Facebook networking groups in your field to gain more knowledge that could help improve your business.
