Hi Dawn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began with a foundation in technology, but my heart has always been drawn to the world of design. Whether it was interior, graphic, or web design, I was captivated by the power of creativity to transform spaces and communicate messages. My passion for floral design, however, blossomed later in life when I discovered a deep connection with the artistry of flowers. Each texture, color, and bloom tell its’ own story. For me, crafting the perfect arrangement is a meditative process where art and nature seamlessly blend.

The turning point came when my daughter was planning her wedding. She insisted that I take on the role of planner and designer, believing in my capabilities. Her confidence in me sparked something within, and that moment marked the birth of Reign of Virtue Designs. What began as a personal project quickly evolved into a thriving business. I’ve always believed in the power of experiential learning. Every project, arrangement, and client interaction has taught me something new about the design world. Today, Reign of Virtue Designs stands as a testament to my passion, dedication, and the fusion of my tech background with my love for creative design.

This journey has been incredibly fulfilling, blending my passion for art with the spirit of entrepreneurship. The unwavering support of my family, ‘Team Virtue,’ has been invaluable, and I’m excited to see where this journey will take us next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has certainly not been smooth. One of the first hurdles I faced was narrowing down my niche. The wedding and event industry is so broad, and for a long time, I struggled to decide whether to focus on planning, décor, rentals, florals, or something else entirely. I love all aspects of the industry, which made it even harder to pinpoint where to truly invest my passion. It wasn’t until I attended my first hands-on floral design class that I discovered my true love for florals, and that’s when everything started to come together.

Another challenge has been managing my time effectively. I’m still working full-time at my regular job while building my business on the side and balancing both has been a constant juggle. Providing high-level service to my clients while managing a full-time workload requires a great deal of organization and discipline.

As the “new kid on the block,” the greatest challenge of all has been earning the trust of brides and clients. Establishing a strong portfolio that reflects my capabilities has been tough as a newcomer in the industry. Clients come to me with specific visions and expectations, and without the extensive portfolio of images that more established designers have, it can be difficult to gain their confidence. However, with every event and every satisfied client, I’m slowly building a portfolio and reputation that will help me continue to grow and thrive in this competitive industry.

At the heart of my business is a deep passion for creating unforgettable experiences through exceptional event and floral design. I pour my soul into every project, specializing exclusively in design to craft bespoke décor and floral arrangements that bring each client’s unique vision to life.

My design philosophy is rooted in beauty, balance, and harmony. I strive to transform every space into a cohesive, captivating experience that not only meets but exceeds the dreams of my clients and their guests. More than just creating stunning events, my work is about delivering an experience that is as unique and extraordinary as the people I serve.

Every luxurious floral design and custom-tailored décor piece is crafted with love and care, aiming to create a lasting impression that elevates every moment. My goal is to touch hearts and create memories that will be cherished forever.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always the quiet one in the room, finding solace in my interests—modeling, fashion, and makeup. As I matured, my love for interior design blossomed, often leading me to rearrange furniture and envision spaces in new, creative ways. Yet, the true essence of who I am today was shaped by two incredible women: my mother, Ellarene, and my Aunt Betty.

I watched my mother create stunning bridal bouquets and arrangements, never imagining that one day I would follow a similar path. Now, as I walk this journey, I often find myself wishing she could be here by my side, sharing in the joys and challenges of it all. When personal struggles feel overwhelming, I turn to God for guidance and strength, finding solace in the memories of my mother and Aunt Betty—two pillars of unwavering love who molded me into the wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend I am today.

Their love was constant, their support unconditional. They provided a foundation that I carry with me every day. The sacrifices they made, their boundless kindness, and their dedication have left an indelible mark on my heart. Reflecting on their influence, I am forever grateful for the way they shaped my life.
