Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Barnes.
Hi Madison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m from Benson, Nc. I grew up on a farm, with two siblings. Growing up I always wanted to be a Veterinary Technician, I studied animal sciences throughout high school but decided that wasn’t for me. It all somehow lead me to cosmetology school, as soon as I started I knew it was exactly where I was supposed to be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Unfortunately not many people get to experience a smooth road, especially becoming self employed. It has definitely been difficult but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve always said the most important thing is to find the best support system. I got lucky enough to step into Huckleberry and Co. salon and spa located in downtown Smithfield. The two lovely owners took me in under their wings and have helped me navigate through all of the challenges of the hair industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Hairstylist! I love to do pretty much everything that involves hair. I always love to see the change, whether it’s a haircut, blonding session, or even just a root color. The major reason I decided to take this journey is because of how I felt every time I would get my hair done even if it was a touch up. I love to see the feelings people experience once they see the final result!
Another one of my favorite things are to be involved in the big days! Prom hair and makeup, or wedding hair and makeup, it’s so much fun to be a part of something so big.
There have been many laughs, tears, and secrets shared in my chair. My clients have become some of my best friends and biggest supporters!
What does success mean to you?
To me success isn’t just money or how many clients I can see in a day. Success is seeing the smile on my clients face. Success is seeing somebody post a selfie with their new hair. Success is when a client recommends their friends. Success is when somebody sits in my chair and tells me some of the most exciting but personal news and I get to share that feeling with them. The relationships I share with my clients are how I define my success!
