Exploring Life & Business with Ali Buttar of 8MSolar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Buttar

Hi Ali, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for solar and renewable energy since my college days and jumped into the solar industry right after graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I started my career in Cleveland, Ohio, but eventually made my way to Raleigh, NC, drawn by my love for the Triangle area. I often visited my aunt, a physician at UNC in Chapel Hill, and I always thought it was the perfect place to raise a family.

In 2017, I co-founded 8MSolar with my best friend, and we’ve been growing ever since. In 2024, we reached a major milestone by registering the most solar systems with the state regulatory authority. That same year, we were honored to receive the NC Sustainable Business of the Year award from NCSEA.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Early days in Cleveland were a struggle no one really cared or wanted to learn about sustainability when there were 5 feet of snow and negative temperatures. Also the economy there was depressed and blue-colored.

As you know, we’re big fans of 8MSolar. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
8MSolar is the highest rated solar panel installation company in North Carolina. We help install solar energy in North Carolina for homes, businesses, non-profits and utility scale. We focus on installing Solar PV panel systems that are cutting edge, beautiful and reliable.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My success comes from doing what I love every day—expanding solar energy adoption. Watching our solar deployments grow year over year is incredibly rewarding, and that continuous progress is what defines my professional success!
