Inspiring Conversations with Aaron Hornstra of Core Results Personal Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Hornstra

Hi Aaron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Like many young athletes, my love for sports in high school naturally led me to pursue a degree in Exercise Science at Ithaca College, where I also had the opportunity to play basketball. Competing at the collegiate level fueled my passion for training, performance, and the science behind movement. I envisioned myself becoming a Strength & Conditioning Coach at a major university or even working with professional teams.

After graduation, I successfully landed an internship at Stanford University’s Strength and Conditioning department. It was an incredible experience, but I quickly realized the reality of the field—demanding hours, limited growth opportunities, and a lifestyle that wasn’t quite the right fit for me. Shortly after, I had the opportunity for another internship at Duke’s Center for Living, which introduced me to the Raleigh area and more of Exercise Physiologist’s role for the first time. Little did I know, it would eventually become home!

Following my time at Duke, I took a Personal Training position at a private boutique studio on Long Island, where I had the opportunity to train both athletes and general population clients. I loved it and had a great experience, but after some time, we decided to make a big move—leaving New York for Raleigh, North Carolina, in search of new opportunities and a better quality of life.

It was in Raleigh that I found my home at Core Results, where I spent 10 years as a trainer, refining my skills, building strong client relationships, and deepening my passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals. Then, two and a half years ago, I took the biggest step in my career—I became the new owner of Core Results! Stepping into this role has been both exciting and challenging, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. Now, I get to shape the future of the business while continuing to do what I love: empowering people to move better, feel stronger, and live healthier lives.

Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing—every step of the journey has led me to exactly where I’m meant to be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Taking over as the owner of a thriving business was an intense crash course for me. Before stepping into this role, my focus was solely on training clients, helping them progress, and maintaining strong retention. Suddenly, I had to navigate every aspect of running a business—from managing people and marketing to handling website issues and beyond. It’s been a journey filled with challenges, but I truly love learning and growing. Now, I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride. Since taking over, the gyms have grown significantly, which has been incredibly rewarding for myself and my family. While the experience has come with its fair share of stress, seeing that growth and knowing I’ve played a role in it makes it all worthwhile.

As you know, we’re big fans of Core Results Personal Training . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Never be complacent! If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that circumstances can change quickly and without warning. When COVID-19 turned our industry upside down and gyms shut down completely, we had to adapt fast. Fortunately, our clients were flexible and willing to pivot with us to virtual sessions. Now, with restrictions long behind us, operations are back to normal—but with a valuable silver lining. We’ve expanded our ability to train clients both in-studio and virtually, giving them more flexibility, even while they travel!
