Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Wilson
Hi Isaiah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved business and making deals happen in some sort of capacity. When I was a young boy, I frequently found a way to make things happen, whether it was selling Halloween candy the day after Halloween at school to kids at my middle school, or selling buying/Selling/Trading sneakers in middle school in high school to eventually starting my real estate company Power Move Investments LLC in 2023. Doing business was something I did without realizing it and I thrived in that environment. Negotiating the best deals either with people that I didn’t know, making sure my communication was on point at all times, it was skills I developed overtime that made me who I am now.
After high school I went the traditional route and went to NC A&T. College was definitely a great experience but not the experience that I needed at that point in time so I left came back and enrolled at Wake Technical Community College. I graduated in December of 2022 with a Degree in Global Business Management and Project Management also with a plethora of certificates that came along with the degrees.
Once I graduated I started to apply for jobs and over the course of about 1-3 months I applied for about 100-150 jobs and only got 2-4 good interviews that all eventually fell through. This discouraged me a lot and made me feel like my value in the work marketplace was very low.
Once this happened I told myself I have to do something, so I started to go to different Real estate meetups by myself which was very nerve racking considering I was a newbie.
At my first meetup ever I didn’t get to meet many people but I met and connected with one guy who is a good friend of mine now Dimitri Christie who was another young guy that had his own real estate investment company and was doing very well for himself. Long story short we built up and great relationship and he actually hired me as his portfolio manager and I help him manage his portfolio of properties and tenants for about 4-5 months.
At this point I’m getting a lot of in the field experience and I made me more and more excited about starting something up of my own. So me and he eventually split ways because I wanted to start my own company. Yet we still remain Good Friends to this day!
At this point I knew about Real Estate but wasn’t sure about how I could get into it with relatively low capital. I tried some methods a couple years prior but nothing stuck, so I tried again. I went to research ways to get into Real Estate for low cost. First was wholesaling which was a method that I tried prior that unfortunately didn’t work for me. The Second method that eventually became my expertise was Airbnb Arbitrage. I hit the ground running and got my first property in October of 2023 and have scaled to 13 properties currently.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. A lot of challenges with real estate, especially as a beginner are networking and actually taking action. It became intimidating networking with individuals who actually have businesses that have been up and running for a while but it’s what you have to do. Your Network is your Networth, and so going to different meetups and meeting new people has always been something that I had to start doing and after a while I enjoyed it because I was seen as the young kid hustling and trying my best to make it happen. A lot of older investors respected that and took a liking to me.
Taking Action is the next challenge that stumped me and I know for a fact stumps a lot of other business owners. Analysis paralysis is a real thing and it’s gets to a point where you have to stop watching YouTube , you have to stop reading all the books and just go out and take action. Taking action is going to teach you 100x more than a book or YouTube ever could because you are getting experience. Not taking action is a detriment to a lot of aspiring business owners.
Another challenge was the knowledge of knowing how to go and get the capital to start my business. I had a small nest egg saved up but I knew I wanted to scale quickly and efficiently once I got the hang of things but i needed more funds to do that. So I had use OPM (Other People’s Money). This is a term that a lot of real estate investors use because most Real Estate investors are not using their own money on the deals they do, they are using a bank or private lenders to make these transactions happen.
We’ve been impressed with Power Move Investments LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Power Move Investments LLC is an Investment company that i started where we mainly Invest in Real Estate with our specialty right now being Airbnb. In just under 1 year and a half we have grown from the ground up to 13 properties under Management. This has been an unbelievable journey with countless challenges along the way. What sets my business apart from others is how genuine I am in how I do business. I try my best to be honest, ethical and moral. Unfortunately in the Real Estate industry there is a lot of dishonest, unethical and immoral investors. It’s not about getting over on customers, guests, etc. or other investors, it’s about providing the most value that you possibly can!
Power Move Investments specialize in furnished rentals that are in great locations close to busy downtown areas and also big hospitals and universities. We only exist in the Raleigh/Durham area for now but are looking to expand to different parts in the state of North Carolina and also out of state as well to other booming markets! Also, Power Move Invetsments LLC manages other investors Airbnb properties as well so if you or another investor are looking to launch an Airbnb we can help you get from furnishing your property to launching and start getting bookings come in and we have a great track record with over 225+ 5 star reviews.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My View on taking risk is that it’s inevitable if you want to grow in business and in life as a whole. I don’t think we realize as humans that life is already full of risk on an everyday basis, just think about it. Getting in a car and driving somewhere is a risk, getting on a plane and flying somewhere is a risk, not taking risks is a risk, etc.
I’ve taken a lot of risk and gambled on myself. Starting my company I had to raise money to scale and that’s not easy knowing you are about to go into debt to be able to grow something that you are not even sure will work. Nothing is guaranteed but you can guarantee one thing, how hard you work. If you make a gamble make it on yourself and then work as hard as you can to make your dream a reality. That’s the key!
