Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Williams
Hi Katrina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Katrina Williams, and I believe that the most beautiful moments in life aren’t posed or perfect—they’re the ones where you’re simply being together, fully present, fully yourselves.
I offer an experience that allows your family to slow down, connect, and enjoy each other, free from the distractions of everyday life. My sessions are relaxed and playful, creating space for genuine interactions, laughter, and quiet in-between moments. The result? Deeply meaningful, authentic photographs and films that don’t just show what your family looks like, but how it feels to be together in this season of your lives.
These images aren’t just for today—they’re for the years ahead, for when little hands grow bigger and the days that once felt ordinary become the memories you cherish most. My hope is that when you look back at your photos and films, you’ll be transported right back to the love, the warmth, and the beauty of now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My sweet son, Søren, was just a year old when the ground beneath us gave way. A diagnosis—a rare, life-threatening immune disorder—and the unthinkable words: your time with him may be short.
We were shattered. I felt myself grasping, trying to hold onto everything—his warmth, his breath, the weight of him in my arms, the way his laughter filled the air like music I never wanted to forget.
In the face of helplessness, I reached for the only thing that made sense—my camera. With all the love in my heart, I documented his days, not just in images, but in feeling. I captured the belly laughs that shook his tiny frame, the way his voice curled around my name, the silent conversations we had when our eyes met, the way our breathing fell into rhythm as if to say, I’m here. I’ve got you.
Preserving that magic saved me. And as the days stretched into years, I knew this was something I needed to share—to help other families hold onto their own fleeting, precious moments.
Together, we’ll create something lasting—legacy pieces in photographs and film, a love story you’ll return to again and again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a family photographer and filmmaker based in Durham, North Carolina, specializing in lifestyle family photography and family films. My work is about more than just taking pictures—it’s about capturing the in-between moments, the real, raw, and beautiful connections that make up a family’s story. I believe that the most meaningful images are the ones that feel like home, the ones that take you right back to how it felt to be in that moment.
I also create cinematic videos, offering both still photography and heartfelt films that bring couples and families right back to the emotions of their fleeting memories.
Beyond photography, I’m deeply passionate about holding space for connection and storytelling. I lead women’s circles, guiding women through intentional gatherings where they can show up as their full, unfiltered selves. I also run Storyframe Collective, a nonprofit that provides photo and video services to families of sick children in hospitals and hospice, helping them document love and connection even in the hardest moments.
What am I most proud of?
I’m proud of the way I’ve woven my deepest values—authenticity, presence, and connection—into everything I do. Whether I’m behind the camera, facilitating a circle, or supporting families through my nonprofit, my work is about seeing people, honoring their stories, and creating something that truly matters.
What sets me apart?
I don’t just take photos—I capture the energy, the feeling, the fleeting moments that might otherwise be lost. My work is deeply intuitive, emotional, and personal. I see beauty in the imperfections, the realness, the rawness of human connection. I also bring my experience as a homeschooling mom to a neurodivergent child, which has taught me how to move with patience, presence, and a deep respect for each individual’s unique way of experiencing the world.
In everything I do, my goal is to create something that lasts, something that moves you, something that feels like truth.
