Today we’d like to introduce you to Shevaun Poole
Hi Shevaun, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Scruffy Dooz Grooming began with a simple passion for animals and a desire to provide pets with the best care possible. I’ve always had a love for animals, and after years of working in different industries, I realized grooming was where my heart truly lied. I wanted to create a space where pets could feel comfortable, cared for, and pampered.
I started by gaining professional grooming experience, honing my skills, and learning everything I could about pet care. Scruffy Dooz Grooming officially opened its doors with the mission to provide high-quality grooming services with a personal touch. Over time, our reputation grew because we always put the pets’ needs first and made sure to offer a friendly, safe environment for both pets and their owners.
Today, we’re proud of how far we’ve come, building a loyal client base and expanding our services. Our goal remains the same: to treat every pet like family, ensuring they leave looking great and feeling even better!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
t hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every challenge has been a learning experience. Starting a business from scratch, especially in a competitive industry like pet grooming, has had its ups and downs. One of the biggest struggles was getting the word out and building a loyal client base in the early days. There were long hours, and at times, it felt like the work was never-ending, but seeing the happy pets and satisfied clients made it all worth it.
Another challenge was managing the balance between the hands-on work and the administrative side of the business. As a small business owner, I had to wear many hats, and it was tough to juggle everything from grooming to scheduling and marketing. It took time to refine the processes and establish routines that made the work more manageable.
But through it all, I’ve remained dedicated to providing a great experience for both pets and their owners. The obstacles only motivated me to continue improving, and I’m proud of where Scruffy Dooz Grooming is today because of the hard work and perseverance that came with overcoming those struggles.
As you know, we’re big fans of Scruffy Dooz Grooming. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Scruffy Dooz Grooming is all about providing personalized, high-quality grooming services with a focus on making each dog feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. We understand that every dog is different, so we take the time to get to know each one and adjust our grooming techniques accordingly. One of the things I’m most proud of is the trust and relationships we’ve built with our clients. Our focus on communication and ensuring that expectations are always met has helped us build a loyal, satisfied clientele. We also pride ourselves on creating an environment where both dogs and their owners feel at ease – that’s a core part of our brand.
Our services include everything from basic grooming, like baths and nail trims, to more specialized services like breed-specific cuts, de-shedding treatments, and even flea/tick treatments. We also offer a variety of add-ons like moisturizing treatments, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing to make sure every dog’s grooming session is as complete as possible.
At Scruffy Dooz Grooming, our brand is built on a foundation of passion, patience, and trust. Our goal is to provide not just grooming, but a whole experience that leaves pets feeling happy, healthy, and looking their best. We want readers to know that when they choose us, they’re choosing a grooming service that truly cares about their pet’s well-being.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I view risk-taking as an essential part of growth and success, but I believe it’s important to take calculated risks, especially when it comes to running a business. When I started Scruffy Dooz Grooming, there were definitely risks involved. One of the biggest risks I took was making the decision to leave my previous job and invest in opening my own grooming business. It was a leap of faith, as I was leaving behind job security to follow a dream I was truly passionate about.
Another risk was investing in high-quality equipment and tools before having a large customer base. I knew that in order to offer the best service, I needed to have the right tools, but it required a big financial commitment up front. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but I trusted that it would pay off in the long run by providing a better experience for both pets and their owners.
In terms of how I think about risk, I always try to balance the potential benefits with the possible downsides. I don’t rush into decisions without considering all the factors, but I also know that playing it too safe can limit growth. Risk has been a key part of getting where I am today, but it’s always been calculated and tied to the bigger picture of building something sustainable and fulfilling.
Taking risks in business often means stepping outside of your comfort zone, but it also opens up opportunities for innovation and improvement. Even though there’s always some level of uncertainty, embracing that risk has ultimately helped Scruffy Dooz Grooming evolve and grow into something I’m incredibly proud of.
