Conversations with Camille Kauer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Kauer

Hi Camille, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age, growing up immersed in the world of film and television thanks to growing up abroad in Germany, Turkey, and Holland I always dreamed of my “big break” in Hollywood. I practiced by treating every mirror as a camera and any where I had an audience as my stage. I was encouraged to follow my dreams by my parents, my father, a Film UPM and former First AD for over 45 years, and my mom a former stunt woman and celebrated artist. Gave me an early exposure to creative careers, ignited by a passion and undiagnosed ADHD led me to explore various facets of the industry.

With a career spanning over two decades, I have worn many hats—working as an esthetics instructor, spa director, film/ print makeup artist, and both radio and TV host. My diverse background eventually led me to podcasting, where I launched my independent podcast “The E-Spot with Camille.” Through engaging interviews with actors, voice artists, cosplayers, producers, casting directors, fashion designers, med spas, and industry insiders, my show has gained both global and local recognition.

A seasoned professional, I have appeared in over 200 commercials and print ads while continuing to evolve in the entertainment world. I currently resides in Wake County, NC, with my husband, daughter, and our two beloved dogs, balancing family life with my passion for storytelling and media.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been anything but smooth; more twists and turns than the scariest roller coaster but that’s all part of the process. Every misstep, awkward moment, and ‘why me?’experience just adds to my arsenal,” giving me richer material for the characters I get to portray and deeper connections with the guests I interview.. After all, challenges make for better stories, and nothing builds character (or a sense of humor) quite like a few battle scars. While some wounds may never fully heal, they at least make for great conversation…and maybe even a relatable podcast episode.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My endless curiosity knows no bounds, being “nosey by nature” and creative, makes me wants to know everything I can about my guests, in hopes of inspiring others and myself. With a background steeped in art, makeup, design, and entertainment, I’ve spent countless hours roaming exhibits, trade shows, and attending trainings.. From acting to esthetics, art to history, I’m always chasing my dreams and learning more to help me get there. Lucky for me, The E-Spot with Camille gives me the perfect opportunity to interview experts in all my favorite fields. It’s part passion, part research, and maybe to fulfill my ADHD curiosities but hey, if I’m learning, so is my audience!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a child, I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexic until later in life, so I was a handful but luckily, my storytelling skills made up for my less-than-perfect spelling. I always made honor roll and even graduated college and esthetics school on the dean’s list! Growing up attending schools abroad, my creative views on assignments often earned me more leniency than red ink, and I somehow managed to convince most of my English teachers to grade me on effort rather than my grammatical errors. They understood I learned the British English way of spelling.

I was in countless plays, constantly reading to younger kids in a variety of voices “which, let’s be honest, was just an early excuse to practice my future voice acting.” To this day, I still love volunteering—especially with teens—because I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle in my teens and feel different. I love encouraging creativity in others and I fully embrace my title as a “serial volunteer.” I am always available to help my NC and Wake Teen Democrat as their advisor, I love judging at the local pageants, and attending union meetings with my Teamster husband.

It runs in the family—my parents were always deeply involved in their community, her father spent two years as a full-time volunteer with SNCC and was on the Directors Guild of America board and my mom a former art teacher would donate her time to orphanages, detention centers, and anywhere she could help students find creative ways to express themselves. My parents’ passion for service shaped me, and now I’m just carrying on their traditions with my own family.
