Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Wise
Hi Morgan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always cherished interior design from a young age. I use to spend hours re-arranging the furniture in my room and took pride in keeping my childhood bedroom always to a certain theme. As I got older and bought my own home I took on a full home renovation project. I enjoyed selecting all of the design elements and once it was done I began helping family and friends with their homes.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University and then continued on to North Carolina State University for my Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Innovation Management and Marketing. I always knew one day I would want to own my own business and combine my love of art and design which is how Morgan Kay Interiors was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. My business took off faster than I anticipated and once I got my website and social media up and running I had to fine tune my process – specifically my website with my list of services and how I wanted to set expectations with my clients and define scope of work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a virtual interior designer/along with in person design. I do it a little different than most, I source affordable items all over the internet to make it easy and affordable to make your home gorgeous! I will send my clients a full design of their room on a moodboard which shows the vision for the space and how items coordinate together (excluding 3D renderings as that is a separate fee for those who need it), and all the links to shop the items. I also partner with local furniture stores and small businesses in our local area. This works great for so many clients because you have the ability to buy things over time from my list as time and money allows! With your purchase you will receive a moodboard and selection list with purchase of a room package.
I also can design your space virtually with your photos and measurements and source all the items for you to shop right from your design board! I make it so easy, and affordable! I love a design challenge and making new friends along the way. I will take on a project as if it were my own and ensure that you feel taken care of throughout the journey.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
My biggest risk so far was one of my first projects being a full service Airbnb install in downtown Cary. I bit off way more than I could chew with that project and had to add a few extra hands in to help me get everything set up. Furniture had arrived damage so I had to sort of returns, the house didn’t have a covered porch so deliveries were left in the rain and had to be returned and exchanged, and I had to work around the construction crew still completing the remodel work to meet the deadline given by the client. In the end it was truly rewarding after seeing all my hard work come together but I learned a lot along the way!
