Rising Stars: Meet Michael Cargain of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Cargain

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working for a sports officiating company called Silbo before COVID came along that shut us down. I would work during the day for them and at night I started playing video games with friends. After a while I wanted to take my playing to the next level after watching a bunch of twitch streamers. I just did not want to be like every other streamer. I wanted to be different with how I did things. I wanted to find a game that I knew I would be good at while wanting to interact with my viewers. I have played baseball my entire life and still play here and there in a 30 plus competitive league in wake forest. Shout out to North Wake Mens Baseball League. MLB The Show has created an amazing game that allows me to show off my skills in the game while being able to fully chat with my viewers. With the amount of interaction I have with them I decided I wanted to create green screen animations for the viewers to use on screen and also create some that I can interact back with them. After just 1 year on twitch I had about 500 followers but after 2 years we are sitting at 1,500 followers. I even took things further and started streaming on tiktok and within not a year I have over 2,000 followers on the channel.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning was a struggle where you would stream with no viewers in there and would just be talking to yourself alot of times. You could go months without any growth and no interaction in the stream. You would see someone pop into stream and than disappear. Nothing the streaming world is simple and takes alot of patience and strategy to trying and grow your brand

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a part time sports content creator on the weekends while I work a full time job during the week while taking care of my daughter as well. I am proud that I have been able to help so many viewers become better at the game and make their experiences with me memorable. On top of that I have also helped out viewers in chat with free gift cards from subs and donations from people. The biggest thing I am proud of was in 2023 we raised $800 in a subathon charity stream to help give 2 families a special christmas where we gave them $400 each to use how ever they wanted to make their christmas better. First family we helped a little girl be able to get alot clothes, toys, diapers, formula since the mother was going through really hard time. The other $400 we sent to another single mother in tennessee through a true friend and streamer of mine to help her pay her electric bill to get her lights back on and toys for her children. Things that set me apart is I am just wanting to give back to people and not really take anything out of it. My full time job covers all my normal stuff. Everything I make from twitch and tiktok i give back to the viewers and followers.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
It does not take alot of money to start what I did. Take your time with things and do not think you are going to go from a few hour streamer to a full time streamer. It takes alot to get there. It is not a 8 hour job because most weeks you could spend 60 hours between streaming and video editing and post your content trying to keep growing. Whatever money you make from streaming put back into your stream to make it better because you trying to entertain your viewers to make them want to keep watching so think of ways to interact with them more. Best advice I can give out of all of this is just have fun and enjoy the ride. When you are just doing something you love good things will come in small packages.
