Meet Anita Scott of Zamariya Spa of Africa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Scott

Hi Anita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Do you see us? This is a question I’ve asked about the wellness industry, for many years. Black people in the US spend billions on wellness and self care activities yearly. Yet, there wasn’t a space that represented us and our likeness.

Hi, my name is Anita Dereen CEO and Founder of Zamariya Spa of Africa located in Charlotte NC. I’ve worked over a decade in the wellness industry and I wanted to create a space that represented our culture, heritage and the beauty of our people. While having a safe space for us to holistically thrive. Zamariya creates an environment where you feel at peace, while talking with your best friend.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As any other business with challenges, Zamariya also has them, funding or access to funding to scale is one. Also, qualified staff for operations. Yet, Zamariya continues to think outside the box with these challenges. Coming in 2025 Zamariya Institute of Massage school.

We’ve been impressed with Zamariya Spa of Africa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A place you can call home, with the beauty and majesty of the Africa culture and love of its people.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up in an all black community Eatonville Fl, home of Zora Neal Hurston. My fondest memory is being with my Giga and she taught me about natural healing practices. Sharing the season food harvest with the neighbors and chasing chickens.

We took care of each other and no one went without.
