Today we’d like to introduce you to Anwar Jr.
Hi Anwar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been in the arts, dancing, and fashion since I was a child. My parents were always fresh and kept us fresh. I’ve been designing since I was a youngin. Always expressing myself aerodynamically, sounds crazy but that’s literally how I am. I used to bootleg clothes that I couldn’t afford, while also making “fast fashion” pieces better. I was brought up in retail, we had a shoe man in the hood, I’ve managed stores, I’ve met people who were in places I wanted to be, looking back on that now; it’s put the craziest battery in my back to achieve more than what I could imagine when I got into it. That just shows you what the prophecy really is.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s 100% hasn’t been smooth. Mental health is the main thing I always put first. Mentally there will be times where I just want to chill and collect no matter the deadline. Growing up and getting more into this field I’ve learned to start taking time away from things if I’m not feeling it 100%, I was always serious and dedicated to making things as perfect as I could with my mind. “Struggles” is just another word for challenge, staying confident is another one.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a seamstress/designer specializing in custom pieces, fashion shows and making people feel welcomed. I’m very proud of the year 2018, I lost my grandfather that year while still mourning my grandma & dealing with my sexuality and the darkest time mentally. I overcame something menacing m and still produced two amazing fashion shows and was featured in two local papers. Nothing sets me apart anymore, I’m off that mentality. I’m just resilient, and you can do it too.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Uh…I can play five instruments, read music, and also dance really well. I’m pretty open when it comes to knowing things about me, I slightly wear my heart on my sleeve.
