Exploring Life & Business with Debbie Vu of IronWorx Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Vu

Hi Debbie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an award=winning film director.
I am a creative entrepreneur.
I am a business owner.
I am bipolar.
I am a Vietnamese American woman.
I am a survivor of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.
I am a teacher.
I am a student.
I am a mentor.
I am a fighter.
I am an performer.
I am funny.
I save the day everywhere I go.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I spent the first 24 years of my life undiagnosed with no real healthy way of coping, instead I dove straight into my academics and extracurricular activities, particularly dramatic arts. What acting gave me was the safe space to be my full self without judgment. That I could channel my pain and joy and share it with my classmates and audiences. The stigma of mental health plagued me starting in high school, people throwing the word, “crazy” around. I’ve been told I’m crazy all my life and no matter what I do, I’ll be seen as crazy. But honestly, I’d rather be crazy than insane because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I am always trying something new and coming up with fun configurations of different types of hangouts with different friends and family members.

Me acting on my crazy impulses is often entertaining and memorable. I’m here on this Earth for a good time! Life is a party; everybody is invited, you just have to show up. I always see the good despite how shitty life can get because I know under all that shit is gold!

We’ve been impressed with IronWorx Media, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We produce short documentaries for promotional purposes and fundraising efforts. We also produce award-winning short films, having accumulated 25 awards for two short films that I wrote, directed, and produced. With my vast network and resources in North Carolina, we can produce anything with any budget even if there’s not a single dollar! But of course, we want to pay our people so it’s only fair that our potential clients understand the value of our work.

I personally took up photography three years ago and have spent time on a dozen local film sets, capturing behind the scenes photos. We cover events as well so we can set up a spot to do quick interviews and document the whole event, including the speeches. You put a lot of work into creating the event, choose us to take photos and videos!

If you have a movie idea percolating in your head, please say hi and I can help you manifest it! I’ve done it time and time again with self-funding my own projects and producing my colleague/friends’ work. I have accomplished so much because I dream big and I follow through. By hiring us, you give our team the experience and funds to keep our dreams going. Personally, any money I make through my business goes straight to my productions which in turn end up in the pockets of working creative professionals.

What’s next?
I plan to be the President of the United States of America.
If Trump can do it, I certainly can.
I will be the youngest president, the first woman, and the first Vietnamese.

I will do it by leading by example and continue making films that matter and inspire. I don’t need to be a politician, lawyer, or any of those boring things that all my predecessors were. I’ll make a brand new path. I intend to continue building my flock and spreading joy and positivity everywhere I go. When I enter a scene, I always make it better and when I leave, I leave it better than when I entered. I am the helping hand. I care a lot. Being bipolar means my feelings are limitless. It means that I don’t settle for less.
