Check Out Jane Jaskevich’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Jaskevich

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew I wanted to be an artist. I was drawing at a very early age and entering art shows in early grades. It was a natural thing that I would get a degree in art with the idea that I ideally would get a job teaching at a college so I could have the time to create art. That was my goal and what I did.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had some early skips in the roads. In college I originally was seeking a degree in Drawing and Painting because that was the “artist” degree. After one especially difficult critique and getting a grade of B instead of A I changed my degree…still in the art area but specializing in teaching art . I was very hard on myself. I graduated with a graduate degree and was able to get a college position teaching pottery/drawing and painting and photography. It was a challenge but helped me grow as an artist.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create sculptures by combining different stones and cypress wood. This look is not something one typically will find. Each piece is unique since I am inspired by the wood I find. I also work from my creative unconscious so there is not much planning.I create where the piece leads me. I am most proud of the fact that I have continued finding avenues to sell my art without compromising what I want to create.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always been creative. It was normal to me and only when I got out of college did I realize that it is something special. I am a pretty outgoing goal oriented person. This has helped me create a thriving relationship with galleries and clients. I grew up riding horses and had a bit of success riding 5 gated show horse. Those early successes helped build my confidence
