Community Highlights: Meet Amanda Grace of Natural Esthetics Skincare Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Grace.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been licensed and working in the Spa Esthetics industry for 25 years. I started in the treatment room at a salon spa, evolved into Resort and Destination Spa. My time there as a Lead Esthetician opened my eyes to more professional opportunities. I was physically burnt out after 7 years of wear and tear on my body so I got my bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Hospitality. This allowed me to become a Resort Spa Director, I was so proud of myself! After several years in this role throughoit the east coast I relocated to Raleigh and felt confident that I had the experience and background knowledge to become a business owner and create my own brand and that’s how Natural Esthetics was born. Since becoming a successful entrepreneur I have evolved into an industry educator where I travel the country and train others on technique, product knowledge, clinical information, and business principles.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely there are struggles!! The first and primary struggle in a service driven industry is staffing. Nobody will perform services, have knowledge, and represent your business and brand as well as you. CONSISTENCY in service value can be hard to maintain. The disconnect people have with thinking that being a business owner means having more money and working less is way off base. The additonal responsibility and pressure of now budgeting 2 sets of bills. The responsibility to ensure the staff has money to pay their bills even though they are theoretically costing you more than they make. Pouring your knowledge and experience into people that don’t acknowledge or appreciate the value. The commitment you make because you don’t have the luxury of walking away to a new job. Not having support and needing to wear all the hats. I could go on. I’m honestly impressed and proud of myself for my journey from nothing to something.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What were you like growing up?
I was a tomboy. I was an exceptional athlete and played soccer as my primary sport, traveling with competitive teams and even receiving a college scholarship. I grew up in Okinawa Japan and zim the oldest of nine. My personal interest varied as probably many kids, I was good a drawing for awhile, I thought I wanted to be an architect, an interior designer, a secret agent..lol I also just really only thought and focused that Id go to colege to play soccer and never thought past that. As I was evolving into myself I was very health focused and find that my progression into esthetics has aligned to support my desire to understand natural health lifestyle and healing.
