Today we’d like to introduce you to Proton.
Hi Proton, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Peyton Salazar. In the music scene today I go by the name, Proton.
When I was still growing up in the Wake County area of North Carolina my mom encouraged and signed me up for a play in the community. After landing my first role… I was hooked. Productions and performances became a part of my life. Memorizing lines, learning music and dance. I continued this passion I gained in high school and even decided to study theatre at university. This is when I really branched out with many interests. After I left school I continued to pursue the arts in my own way. I began producing my own music to release on all platforms and network with other rising artists in the Raleigh area. It’s my absolute passion and I live for creating and writing stories for others to listen to. I will continue to adapt to the ever changing music world and evolve my craft, utilizing mentors in the area and feedback from my fans. I plan to better myself in every way shape and form revolving around this world and I look forward to creating more art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has had many bumps in the road as well as challenges I could’ve never foreseen. I’ve gone through many losses. I’ve battled forms of addiction and gotten myself into a number of situations… some life threatening.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to create lyrics that can help others. In many ways, I’d compare my sound to an audio therapy. I’m known for “Positive Energy”… this is where I got the name Proton. Other names like “Pro” came into play later in my career and social life. There’s just some special things that I’m good at. I’m most proud of the relationships in music that I’ve made along the way and landing shows to perform my originals. This is a milestone that was closer than I could’ve ever imagined. What sets me apart from others is my ability to write coherent lyricist stories and experiences on the spot and “off the dome”.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Raleigh, North Carolina is such a dope energy to be around and be apart of. I’ve met some of the most creative people in this city man. What’s dope about it is that every single person/artist has had their own unique experience and honestly their own genre to them. It’s an absolute melting pot for authentic sound and there’s definitely stories to be heard around here.
What do I like least about my city? You could say, status. Sometimes in the scene I see “bigger” names or artist hold themselves to a higher standard than those that are just trying to break out. I wish more people could maintain their humility. Staying humble is key in this business if you ask me.
