Daily Inspiration: Meet Kendra Ferrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Ferrell.

Hi Kendra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi I’m Kendra, owner of Kelasso, a clothing brand out of triangle area. I am a creative and entrepreneur at heart. I launched my clothing brand, Kelasso, in 2017 during my last semester at North Carolina Central University. Ive always envisioned of having my own boutique growing up and wanted to have an outlet to express my creativity. I’ve worked as an influencer on a micro level with various small brands across the country including a collaboration with ScentCraft on a women’s fragrance, Keep It Classy (KIC), in 2023. I enjoy trying new endeavors as I explore various creative outlets. In my normal everyday life, I am a full time employee. I work as a Planner for a healthcare coalition in the triangle area. I’ve worked in various healthcare roles and enjoy my full time work. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education and a Masters in Healthcare Administration. Even through the worlds are totally different I enjoy the balance both worlds bring.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth having is easy. I’ve experienced many challenges along the way- product theft, models canceling the day of a shoot, international shipment errors, etc. Anything you think could go wrong has happened. I like to think of the challenges as stepping stones to making a great outcome.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love that I can show up as myself and be assertive in my work. Both jobs as a Planner and a Creative/Boss require me to be attentive to my environment, be confident, and execute my vision while keeping it classy. Most people know me for that. I’m proud that I am a young black woman without limitations. I just hope to keep that drive and keep God first in everything I do.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risks can be frightening. I am not a risk taker but I have challenged myself to step outside of my comfort zone. I feel like I’m taking a risk with this interview because it’s not my strong suit. As an introvert it’s a challenge for me to sometimes share and connect with others. To be frank, I sometimes feel the fear of “what if I fail?” In my creative work. When I feel anxious or overwhelmed with the idea of risks, I take a step back, breathe, and just do it! There is no reward without risks. That’s my daily reminder.
