Life & Work with Sydney Vaught of Durham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Vaught.

Hi Sydney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start in art in high-school, I had a really motivating art teacher, Ms Hilton, who helped push me to be the artist I am today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never a smooth ride when it comes to being a creativity. There are always ups and downs especially when you experience artist block, you want to create but don’t have the motivation.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a visual artist and curator, specializing in digital art and acrylic paintings. My art style combines abstract and realistic portraits, drawing inspiration from everyday life, black culture, and my own thoughts and experiences. I am proud of the growth in my work and my ability to curator events that shine a light on other local artists.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I look forward to seeing how artists adapt to the rise of Ai and the challenges that come with it.
